Tool for Board Whores?
 

Hey everyone... I made a program for myself that basically integrates GFY as an Internet Explorer window and displays a list of all the postings you've made... so basically, for board whores, this would give you a quick way to figure out which posts have been replied to by someone else since you posted and allows easy and quick navigation to them without having 15 GFY windows open. We all know how much of a pain in the ass it can be. :thumbsup

Checkmarked items in the list on the left are those that I got the last word in... clicking them opens up the topic in the integrated browser.

I made it for myself, but thought that maybe some other people out there (cough cough... board whores) might want to use it as well? If so, I'll add a few more features and package it up for you.

Yeah I had the GFY ticker and it kicks ass.. although I need to get it again because I lost it in my big crash.

Very nice. I have to admit that the GFY Ticker is a pretty cool program... but still, you get the wrong idea of my program. My program is more of a "don't need to keep 15 GFY windows open, refreshing each one every minute or so, just to watch threads that you've posted on and like." It monitors posts that you've posted in only and effectively drops the need to keep tons of windows open because it notifies you when someone replied to your post. Simply clicking on the list opens the page in the browser window that's integrated into the program. Running your GFY Ticker for 5 minutes, I ended up with 8 GFY windows on my screen and it started lagging bad. This was exactly what I was trying to avoid with mine.

So, don't get the wrong idea. I am going to keep the Ticker on my computer as well because it's pretty nifty. Just understand that our programs do two different things. And thanks for the link. It's good stuff man. :thumbsup

Thanks man... I wasn't trying to jack your thread, and I agree, your idea serves a totally different purpose from the ticker. I often have way too many thread windows open.

Can't wait to see it. Be sure to clear it with lensman and company first... He won't let you sell it or advertise on it though. :(

Basically, I want to do this the right way, so I want to get Lensman's approval on it before I start passing it around, plus I want to add a few more buttons and features into it before I package it up for release. The bulk of the program is already complete, so it shouldn't be long from now.

I've received a few emails with comments like, "Keep me posted." If anyone wants to be notified by email when the program is done (since there seems to be an even higher demand than I thought there would be, hehe), just drop me a line at [email protected] and I'll send out a mass mail to all of you when it's done and ready to go.

Hehe, it's all good man. You didn't jack my thread... your posting actually peaked my interest and you were able to bring your GFY Ticker thread back from the dead, and since it's not like I'm competing with you or anything, that's a good thing. :1orglaugh

And yes, I'm going to send them a copy of the program to try out before I release it. As I've said, I wasn't planning to release it in the first place... it was going to be my own personal toy... hehe. But it seems that people like the idea, so if Lensman is ok with it, I would like to feel that I helped someone out a little bit. :thumbsup

Also, I never planned on making any money from it... I do like your idea about donations however. If anyone decides they want to donate money to support future development of free projects by me, then I'm not going to complain. Hehe. And I wasn't planning on advertising. GFY already has enough banners as it is, which I made sure that my program didn't touch (because I didn't want to get yelled at by paying sponsers, Lensman, etc).

Ok guys here is the deal.. We have it done now we just need to get a hold of Lens to get his approval so if you can get a hold of him and can point out this post we can get it out to you guys!
