Nothing seems to stop these guys though.

Fletch XXX 09-04-2003 04:41 PM

'The video series that Francis created has made millions by filming college-age women revealing their breasts at parties and spring break sites.'

if this were the case he wouldnt be facing jail

lexr 09-04-2003 04:43 PM

That's why filming porn without model release forms, two forms of ID, and all the usual business stuff is bad.

It's called having money. Money to burn.

I don't want to defend these guys....... Anything to do with a minor is a big no-no.

If you read the new story..... This isn't footage that was released to the public on DVD. This information is based on 175 hours worth of tapes the police confiscated. According to this article, they are guilty of nothing more than filming spring break.

exactly.

and this isnt the first time they've been busted.

They just keep coming back.

Here is the weird thing. They say they siezed 175 hours of video from their condo right? Well I know that it takes a whole fucking day to get about 5 hours if you are lucky in the can. Now why would they have 175 hours in the condo. I mean after they shot it, if they were planning to stay in a locale for a while, wouldn't they send it off to be edited? All seems a bit fishy to me.

gothweb 09-04-2003 05:02 PM

They did more than shooting spring break. They paid girls they knew were underage to have sex on film.

Bigdaddyhgh 09-04-2003 05:36 PM

was arrested in April on racketeering and drug charges after parents complained to police he told underage girls to say on camera that they were 18.

If convicted of all charges, producer Joe Francis could face 30 years in prison.

RICO= OWNED

If they want you bad enough RICO is the tool they use if he indeed told the girls to lie and supplied drugs to minors they can make it stick.

Bottom line is that someone in Panama city decided they wanted his ass he had been everywhere in the country with the same plane cameras and crew. I dont wish jail on anyone but he is caught in a tough spot they will make him look like the biggest piece of garbage there is.

LadyMischief 09-04-2003 05:38 PM

Fucking sick fuckers. I hope they burn.

doober 09-04-2003 05:39 PM

with all the money they made, why the fuck they did have to do that?
can you say "dumbass"?

Yeah, quite a bit more:
http://www.bayso.org/Press%20Releases/04-03-03.htm

And, note the last four paragraphs in the initial AP press release. These guys can expect anything Bay County/Florida dishes out to them.

The Associated Press
The head of a company that produces the "Girls Gone Wild" videos was
arrested on racketeering and drug charges after parents complained to
police he told underage girls to say on camera that they were 18,
police said Thursday.

Search warrants on five locations and a private Gulfstream jet turned
up videotapes to corroborate the stories of five girls who said they
stripped and acted out scenes on camera although producers knew they
were underage, police said.

Joe Francis, chief executive officer of Mantra Entertainment, was
arrested outside of his condominium Wednesday evening. Three other
employees were also arrested.

Francis, 30, and Mark Schmitz, 26, were charged with prostitution and
sexual exploitation. Francis was also charged with drug trafficking.
The other two employees were charged with drug possession.

Mantra Entertainment spokesman Bill Horn said they deny all charges.

Police said they seized a 2002 Ferrari, electronic equipment, waiver
documents and a safe containing original footage of young women baring
forbidden flesh.

Panama City Beach is the nation's leading spring break destination,
attracting up to 400,000 college and high school students in March and
April.

Four 17-year-old girls and a 16-year-old came across a "Girls Gone
Wild" van Monday evening and were asked to go to a motel room with a
video crew to act out nude scenes in front of the camera, police said.
Two of them did, and were paid $100 for their performances, police
said.

"One of the 17-year-old girls came clean to her mother, and they
called us," said Bay County sheriff's spokeswoman Ruth Sasser.

Police said they found video to confirm that Francis told the
16-year-old to say she was 18 when he filmed her baring her breasts on
video.

All four men were still in custody Thursday evening in the Bay County
Jail in Panama City, officials said.

Area officials started feuding with the video company earlier this
year when a "Girls Gone Wild" crew came to town during spring break.

Mayor Lee Sullivan and local law enforcement officials threatened to
arrest anyone violating a public nudity ordinance as well as those who
encouraged such lawbreaking.

The producers went to court, asking a federal judge to declare that
certain activity associated with the filming would not be
automatically illegal and seeking a temporary restraining order
preventing authorities from making or threatening arrests.

They dropped the restraining order request March 12 after getting a
written promise police would not interfere with their constitutional
rights.

Not sure they are sick, just fucking stupid to even try to bend any rules. They already had made huge bank.

Spring break in Panama City is a three week affair, GGW usually has two or three camera people fielded at an event, John Francis owned the condo in PCB and editing of a master usually isn't started until an event is over.

Also, there may have been any number of one hour DV tapes with only 15 minutes recorded on them, but the authorities have a tendency to "round up" figures in these cases, and not all of the tapes seized had to have been of the PCB SB coverage, but were included for the same reasons as the first part.

No coment! :disgust

This is the line that gets me:

"It doesn't become child pornography when you're just dealing with nudity," Dyer said.

So, they are saying they knew the girls were under 18 but they think that is ok? I am understanding this wrong?

cyberpod 09-04-2003 06:38 PM

Ya know, the sad part is this CCW shit has been around for years now... but they act like they just found out about the chicks... I have a hard time with going after someone after it was out and in your face AND OK for so long.

If their lawyers insist on 2257 being applied as written, they are correct. However, that still leaves the $50 offer to a minor for sex and the recorded drug usage, which is entirely different matters.

Well, the fact of the matter is that event coverage, such as GGW had been doing, is OK. They crossed a line into other activities in PCB though and that's the only reason they're in trouble now.

I second that.. NO way did they have 175 hours of str8 footage on hand.. It takes a large camera crew just to get a few hours daily..

Through the two weeks of Carnival here each year, I can easily (and usually do) end up with a hundred hours of raw footage to edit by myself. Of course, I do roll camera constantly, prefering to burn a lot of tape so as to not miss those "quick flashes" and have plenty of lead in to a shot, which makes for better editing.

cash69 09-04-2003 06:59 PM

so.. could anyone that owns that girls gone wild film goto jail for child porn? or what will they do with everybody that owns the film ..

beemk 09-04-2003 07:35 PM

Perfectly Put!

StacyCat 09-05-2003 01:25 AM

GGW themselves have legally proved that simple flashing doesnt require ID's, and doesnt require the girls to be over 18.

"Appleman said he is leery of turning over to the defense the tapes, which include the alleged minors performing sex acts, because it would be illegal for him to give contraband to anyone. "

Once they cross over into 2257 territory, they need ID's. And not checking them before filming, they are in the wrong.

MetaMan 09-05-2003 01:27 AM

they will get off scott free and a little bit of fines.
