Interesting interview with Rob Berman

I'm still unclear what he's talking about as far as the affiliate license though. Does it sound like affiliates with teaser videos for their sponsor's sites need a license too?

Edit: Sorry, obviously I meant Rob Berman but my title edit won't take.

Understand the absurdity of the situation when you listen to a YNOT program to know that they are technically violating Acacia's patent claims, but are ALLOWED to broadcast because it gives Acacia an outlet.

Companies like RadioIO.com that do streaming music had to license Acacia's patents.

I think that YNOT did a great job with the show and that Mr. Berman was very articulate in his company's strategy.

The show and the article transcripts serves as means to bring awareness to this issue.

Fight all patent abuse cases by helping to find prior art.. dig back in your memories to those computer geek friends you had, or still have. Think back to BBS days. Make phone calls, send emails. You can either pay the licensing fees, or take down your video clips and move on.

If you read the article, then you know this is serious stuff.

Thanks for all the kudos... but we never did a show with Rob Berman. If you are referring to Internet radio, we have never had Rob on as a guest.

I would guess that most GFY readers don't know Rick Bermen, let alone Rob Bermen :)

Probably should have put Acacia in the title.. that seems to draw people's attention.

No worries dude. And nope... no "yet" in the mix... not gonna do a radio interview with Rob Berman. I wanted a written one only with easy reference to.

Yes I screwed up on the name, but I avoided putting Acacia in the title on purpose. I'd say that the GFY readers that don't know the name Berman aren't affected by the patent anyway or haven't cared enough to read about it.

But at least I got the BerMAN part right. :)

Our AVS license covers the AVS site itself, and also covers the sites that are participating in the AVS program. The royalty is based upon subscription revenue.

So any AVS site is cool since it's the AVS program owner who needs to pay !!
------------------------------

Our Webmaster license covers audio / video content that is accessed by the end user customer via the Webmaster's site, regardless of where the content is hosted. So content that is hosted by a content provider and is accessed by the customer via a link on the Webmaster site is covered by the Webmaster license. Just because the Webmaster has someone else host and stream the content on the Webmaster's behalf, does not absolve the Webmaster from liability for patent infringement. All sites owned or operated by the Webmaster are covered by one license and the Webmaster can add additional sites to the license at any time. Our Webmaster royalty is based upon subscription revenue

SO - I as a webmaster have to pay for using a thirparty company
streaming feeds they own. The company with the streams is a webmaster with a site using streams - does he have to pay also ??!!

They are so fucked up !

And what a fuck is the difference between affiliate program
and webmaster ??????????? I'm a webmaster but I also have an affiliate program with my sites I'm a webmaster off.

Daaa...
