Do you offer zips...
 

Do you offer zips of the photo galleries for download in your members area of your paysites? I have seen a couple sites do this and I would like to offer super high quality photos to my members, but my site only allows photos that are 800 px wide. Let me know if you do this or what you think about doing it.

without thinking into it too much ... wouldnt that defeat the purpose of having alot of content to keep them hanging around?

if they can download all your content within minutes ... why stay as a member?

But they still have to come to your site to get the new shit. We update our sites everyday, so i would have to think they would be coming back, but who knows....i would like to hear for someone thats doing this.

I offer zips for individual sales

Some might not want to signup for a membership but they dont' mind downloading a certain zipfile they like for like 5 bucks.

weird,, but i actually have some guys who will download 2 or 3 zipfiles per month for 5 dollars per instead signing up for the site at 19 bucks per month

That is weird. But I was thinking of having a link on the main page of each gallery that allowed them to download the zip of all the super high quality photos.

Actualy let me reverse the question, how do you feel about offering the content in a form where they can not easily download it, causing them to come back for more....

We do that now...and we have a shitload of content, thats not the problem. I have been to a couple sites that offer this and I was just wondering if anyone else does it. I kinda feel the same way as you with wondering if the customers will comeback...like will they do a grab and run during their trial.

we have lots of members asking for zips. no way we'd post them. as they said people would download the entire site in an evening. sure they'd come back for more but maybe 6 months later. at which point they'll get another 3-day trial and download the site again in a night.

i'd rather have them recur for 6 months.

why make it easy for them? i'm in the membership business, not the cheap content business. they can cope with $20 a month. what's that? dinner?

I think TGP's are evil, I think trials are bad, and that all content should be protected. I even developed a way to encode user data on delivery of a movie so that people could track how a movie got spread... (kinda silly though who's gonna sue over a membership right). I like the pay to play model and am heavily into DRM and its alternatives. That being said my view is jaded.

If the content is old and overseen and "blown out" sure let them download it...but why do it on fresh content...

see, before when i was on the joining side of this business I had a membership at a site that offered zips. That was THE ONLY site I ever rebilled at, and it was for 6 months. How hard is it really for them to grab what they really want and save it on their computer? I was just looking at this as a extra bonus to my members, but i do not want to mess with the recurring ratios i have right now, so i'll leave it be

We only offer ZIP's on all our photo/video sets. Keeps the members happy, but, to do this, you need shitloads of content or they'll suck down your members area in short time.

for the rest of the seething mass, it slows them down a bit. how many pics did that site have? were they any good?

if we gave our images as zips they would be all over the net on free sites everywhere. we have a problem with that now. it would be a hundred times worse with zips.

I have about 100GB of images and a bunch of movies, tons of exclusive also. All together i would say about 200k photos. The photos are the only thing im going to zip.

Ahh but it can still be prevented further...I personaly think thats the best option to prevent it further (then again since i offer the service you can say im jaded as well...which i cant argue..)

First off im not going to offer it in one large zip. second if you want to download that much shit you will pay for atleast a month membership. third, it is not like you are going to have a licence. I have over 25k invested in content for 5 sites, i have ordered from just about all the big content providers.

What do you have??? images that you downloaded from other sites?

I agree. I personally put in browser video so members couldn't download video. I feel the more updates we do daily the more we should be able to keep our members longer than most sites!:thumbsup

the best recurring sponsor i use has zips of every set. members DO have to click to the gallery to get the corresponding zip. it sure hasn't hurt their retention any, as it's the best i've seen recently.

Yeah, I agree with everything except that in-browser video. I absolutely despise that. For vids I like to be able to download then view later or something. That's another reason why I hate streaming video too - and will never use it.
