i seriously doubt it, but i guess its even possible for them to have arranged the entire thing so they make people gag, then donate money to help stop it.

id be interested in finding a worthwhile place to donate, that has proof that it can and will make a difference.

In Defense of Animals run by veterinarian Dr. Elliot Katz is the best organization I've come across. He's so dedicated to animal welfare. Sends informative literature, how the money is spent, etc. They accomplish a lot of good things.

Here's where your meat comes from:
Pigs and cows are kept in tiny cages in which they can't even turn around. They are force-fed until they can't even stand anymore (part of their diet consists of meat leftovers and ground bones from their own species, btw), and given antibiotics constantly to speed up growth and keep them alive (their diet and way of life cause all sorts of infections and other health problems).
Then, they are transported to "death factories", where the beast is transformed into the burger. Ofcourse, they don't go in willingly - after all, they can smell their dead cousins - and struggle as much as they can. Brute force is used to get them in anyway.
After that, a steel pin is rammed through their heads and they are electrocuted. Then, they're cut into little pieces which will end up on your plate.

There really is no way to do this as "humanely" as possible. Just deal with it.

Come back when you have a fucking clue. I know plenty of farmers and I've been on plenty of farms and without question, all of them take good care of their animals. True, they end up on a plate but it is also true that until that day they are given the best possible treatment. The shit in that video is not the norm, far from it. I do agree that those fucks should be shot.

Yes, there are plenty of farmers that try and do it as humanely as possible. It's a shame that their production is too small to really make a difference, and their prices are up to 5 times as high as those from the large scale animal factories (farms isn't really a fitting term).
Ever been to one of those? I have, they had 200,000 pigs there, in four huge barns on an area about as large as what a "traditional" farmer would need for a few hundred pigs or cows.
The thing is, the majority of farm animals are kept that way, and most meat is produced that way. Not because there are more farmers who work that way, but because the ones that do have a production hundreds of times bigger than that of the normal farmers.

Some stats for my small country (Holland - 16 million inhabitants): 14 million pigs are kept, 85 million chickens are kept, and 4,3 million cows. Yearly, 500 million animals are "processed" (chickens are raised in 6 weeks, then slaughtered, pigs are raised in a few months).
The bulk of this (90% I believe) happens in factory farms, even though traditional farmers greatly outnumber factory farmers.

I agree people have a right to eat meat if they so chose. Seems to be just the way nature works and was designed.

I just don't agree with people brutalizing any living creature, be it another human being or an animal. If you're going to slaughter an animal just do it as quickly and painlessly as possible.

There is no justification to leave animals that have been banged around or sick to just lay there and take 3 days to die. Nor to break their backs like in that video cause they aren't moving fast. Nor to put the stun bolt through their ears and jaws. Nor to put them in the boiling water until they are totally dead.

Yes, people have the right to eat meat. However, since people want to eat lots of meat and at low costs, mass production is necessary. Low cost mass production leaves very little room for ethics and such.

Want to do something about it? Buy your meats at a local butcher, not Walmart, an make sure the meat comes from traditional farms. It'll taste twice as good and be three times as expensive.

Im sure we can all agree that to keep up with the demand, these large farms have to exist. Do you think KFC could keep up with the demand for chicken if they ran a place where they were "nice" to the animals?

At best all we can hope for is they have a pain free life. But I agree with KRL. There is no reason to beat an animal and leave it for 3 days or for that matter watch the thing in pain for 5 minutes after you shoot it with the bolt gun. Also I don't understand why they leave the sick ones just to die on their own? If they are truley sick like most of the ones we saw in the video why not just kill them when you find out they are sick instead of making them suffer without food or water. The same goes for the runts of the pack that seem to get abused because of their size.

This brings up my next question. Why can't these large farms set up a program where they give away the small or sick animals. Im sure there would be alot of smaller farms that would take these animals. Or at least for the small ones someone who would want them as a pet.

This type of stuff will never stop but believe that something has to be done to stop the abuse that animals suffer. Just like what those people in China were doing to those dogs.. posted last week on gfy.

By no means am I jumping on the peta bandwagon, I believe they go overboard in their approach. I don't need some washed up celebrity telling me I need to become a vegetarian to try and make me understand the problem.

I whould love to try living like 20 000 years ago..just need to find a good cave in the mountain..I think it whould be cool..maybe I put up some web cams..so the world can see how good there life really is when I sit there besides the fire and it's -20 celsius..that's what I whould say hard times.. hunting and fishing etc...for a year.

Plus the general practices of north american meat farms and simply the governing practices and methods are pretty crazy if you get into reading about them.

Its not so much an ethical viewpoint for me, hell we are killing people with slightly better weapons all around the world (of course they all deserve it unlike these poor pigs) its simply the quality of meat you buy from the store, I mean when you see that sick pig that can't get up the ramp near the end...fuck you ate that one as well. Same for chickens, if you read the standards that are practiced its enough to make you stop eating meat period... its not 1850's early settler/small farm raised meats anymore...its fast food shit. And this type of corporate practice is un-ethical to people.
