110V vs 220/240v

I was looking into electricity for my trip to Europe.. seems like most of my electronic gadgets (laptop, cell phone charger, MP3 charger, digital camera charger, etc) are capable of both 110/220V, but London is 240V - that'll prolly fry things huh?

I also looked at a transformer - those fucking things are heavy.. I don't really want to be lugging one of those things around. :-/

Anyone with some advice?

Get a universal adapter for your dildo

Scoobs 08-25-2003 06:30 PM

Man it should be fine... 240 and 220 are basically the same - you shouldn't have any problems.

I live in Australia and I use lots of stuff that's 110v-220v and we use 240v... It's all good.

You should get another opinion, but I wouldn't worry about it.

You will not have any problems.. Make sure your cell phone is a tri or dual band gsm phone if you want it to work in europe.

240 vs 220

It's ok. You don't need worry.

I've used all my electric stuff (pc, etc.) in London dozens of times, no problem, no adapter. The only issue is the fucking weird phone line connection they have there...

You can use 220V devices with 240V power without any problems.

But they do have great fucking cabs! Wish NY could get those black ones with the jump seats...

Most fucked up thing in London was the phone service. Its cheaper to dial your isp at home than place a local call from a big hotel.

Big E 08-26-2003 08:04 AM

Good to know about 220v vs 240v... I was actually surprised that all my electronics gear handled the 220v. (shrug)

I'm going to try not to do dial-up.. WiFi only..

Deniska - I've got one of those "global" phones that works in every country.. one phone number. Spendy, but much better than changing phone numbers and GSM cards every time you cross a border.

Silver - electrician? My dad's a TV repairman and HE'S got an awesome set of tools.. heh heh

Big E,

WiFi only? You'll have problems I think, there aren't so many public WLAN NAPs around in europe.

Very few really. Some Internet Cafees have WLAN but thats about it.

most laptops have an automatic switch :-)
mine can handle 110/220 , look for a sticker underneath

that should solve the problem :-)

You should carefully investigate what you'll be charged because international roaming can be *EXTREMELY* expensive.

Big E 08-26-2003 06:11 PM

Yeah, I've got all the details.. it's expensive, but not obscene. And I only plan on using it sparingly, most as a place for someone to get ahold of me in an emergency.

you won't....
50 cycles in UK is bigger problem than voltage difference,
but not in your case,
it only affect USA HEAVY VOLTAGE transformers
(kinda like power stations use)
because coils get heated faster in @ 50 cycles than 60 cycles,
your computer is a VERY small appliance and won't be affected.
