Where to outsource video encoding?
 

I have a bunch of movies that need to get a bit edited, watermarked and encoded to mpeg. The format that I'll supply
will be mini DV tapes. Each clip is between 5 or 10 minutes
already. To start I'll send a batch of 100 clips and afterwards
per week between 15 and 30 new clips.

Who can do this, How much, and post a sample please.

to know that I'm not wasting my time.....excuse me if that sounds
harsh but there are too many clowns in this biz who only seem
to be good at wasting people their time. I'm not implying you are

the prices for 120 minutes of video encoded into a single format at a single bitrate is $2.10 per minute - if I wanted you to rip and encode a 2 hour DVD into an MPEG the charge would be $252.00?

vivid was bought by hustler, and so now they run the internet which by default is flyntdigital (webquest)

soooo, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think now that hustler owns VCA the came thing will happen... good thing I don't work there anymore, if I did, I would get blamed for more common sense rumors...

It's a joke if it's the case. Imagine 2 Formats X 3 resolutions = 6 X $2.10 per minute = $12.60 per minute.

Reminds me of when I was walking down the carnival midway one weekday afternoon. Passing a fellow in a booth working a game, I said "Looks kinda' slow today".

exactly - from what I know in this business regarding what people are willing to pay for content and design no way is anybody paying these kinds of prices for encoding.

anybody who has hired people to encode DVD's,miniDV's, post the best prices you've found per DVD or per minute - for one format, one bitrate.

best i found when i needed somebody was $85 per DVD, which are usually about 75 to 120 minutes, two formats/bitrates plus screencaps. i was happy with that price but have heard other guys say they can beat that price.

DVD ripping is much easier so probably cheaper.

There's no editing or correcting of colour/curves and audio.

not sure if that's the case - when we shoot custom videos for people the colors and audio are good to go and it's edited so i don't see any difference between ripping and encoding a DVD or the raw AVI i would send them. Not asking for additional services like color and audio correcting, just straight encoding services.
