Gas Prices Make Record Jump

That's rough...it's supposed to come back down soon, though..

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp.../ap/gas_prices

Supply shortages pushed average retail gasoline prices up more than 15 cents a gallon nationally during the past two weeks, the largest retail price hike on record since the Lundberg Survey began keeping records 50 years ago.

pr0 08-25-2003 02:32 PM

shortages my ass, they just knew everyone & their mother would be driving the last 2 weekends of summer

Nanda 08-25-2003 02:32 PM

Sucks, hope they go down ASAP

Amputate Your Head 08-25-2003 02:33 PM

"Phoenix had the highest leap in the nation during the two-week period, with prices jumping 60.42 cents a gallon for self-serve regular. On Aug. 22, self-serve regular averaged $2.1425, the highest price in the nation for that grade. "

Liars. Gas is pushing $2.60 a fucking gallon here for regular. I guess we don't count as 'part of the nation' anymore huh.

Jakke PNG 08-25-2003 02:34 PM

Ya gas jumped pretty good here in vegas recently too. And im driving 1500 miles next week... prolly the worst time to drive! doh!

LeeNoga 08-25-2003 02:46 PM

They blame the NE blackout and of course the Arizone pipeline thing...its $164.9 in Florida for the 87 Octane.

cold_ice 08-25-2003 02:52 PM

Where about $2.15 here and I was complaining but shit its better than paying $2.60.:glugglug

Roald 08-25-2003 03:01 PM

1 gallon is like 4 liters right? So at 2.60/gallon thats .65/liter correct me if I'm wrong but over here we pay 1.14/liter so these prices aren't realy that high :winkwink:

Anything they will say ... Maybe still 9/11 ....

But maybe consider this:

Quote:

In that southern US state and in neighbouring Texas lie huge salt-lined caverns that house America's strategic petroleum reserves. After 11 September 2001, President Bush said he wanted to increase the oil in the reserve from 600 million barrels to 700 million barrels by the end of 2005.

This huge cache of black gold would serve as emergency stocks should any unfriendly country choose to halt exports, or should there be a repeat of Venezuela's political turmoil, which hoisted oil prices above $35 in December.

Then President Bush stopped adding to the reserve to alleviate pressure on the oil price. In May, he turned the taps back on again and the US administration has been paying top dollars - of more than $30 a barrel - for 11 million barrels of oil. Democratic senator Carl Levin accused the Bush administration of foisting high oil prices on the world.

'This administration's actions to fill the [reserves] regardless of the price for oil available to the commercial sector, is a major reason for these high prices,' Levin said in a letter to the US Energy Secretary, Spencer Abraham.

Don't forget. The whole hawk administration is swiming in oil ...

jigg 08-25-2003 03:04 PM

our money is worth more than yours. Do the exchange rate first, then cry about the price.

So that makes it .68 /liter wich is still very low

SMG 08-25-2003 03:08 PM

Smile. Eventually we'll be totally out of oil supplies and we won't have to worry about high priced gas anymore. :thumbsup

:1orglaugh

Yeah gas is cheaper in the US / Canada then in Europe by quite a bit.

I guess cause we produce our own oil over here (alberta) and don't have to pay to export it all in from the middle east.

Haha just reminded me of that good George Bush quote.

"Over 50 percent of our energy comes from overseas. Fortunately, a lot of it comes from Canada. "

Good thing we're overseas now!

:)

Phoenix had the highest LEAP, Amp, think reading comprehension here ;)

We also had the north south AND the east west pipelines into town go down and we've had stores without gas to sell for more than a week now.

Then the fix on the main line from the south didnt work so they had to put in a 4 mile bypass in order to get something moving into town.

Truckers were waiting 10 hours to fill their tanks in Tucson and motorists were waiting 30-45 minutes to hopefully get gas last week, not a pretty site :(

SomeCreep 08-25-2003 06:51 PM

fucking a. I hate paying over $2.00 per gallon.

media 08-25-2003 09:34 PM

Yeah, here we go.. this is more like it...
