Do liberals control the media?

Tonight on Hardball, this will be the topic of conversation.
It comes on in 40 minutes (7et, 6ct on MSNBC)

I like Chris Matthews, he doesn't take shit from anyone and he's given equal amounts of shit to both Bush and Clinton.

I think this will be worth watching.

These contrived "contraversies" on the US media are.. well :winkwink:

Can't say I ever found any media so bad as that which exists in the US - kinda like "non happenings", purveying selected skant detail, "pre trials" of celebs along with the "latest video games of the week".

Was kinda stunning that a judge actually listened to some appeal by CNN to release papers on a trial which had not even started. (Kobe Bryant). In any other country, CNN would be told to fuck off and don't even think about doing that again.

I guessed from this board that "liberal" is aligned with "communist" in that it is another "disease" in the US. :1orglaugh

Ironic.

tonkagunner 08-22-2003 03:57 PM

From dictionary.com

Liberal:
Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.

Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.

Liberal Of, designating, or characteristic of a political party founded on or associated with principles of social and political liberalism, especially in Great Britain, Canada, and the United States.

tonkagunner 08-22-2003 04:04 PM

Well, it sounds like dictionary meaning of liberal is a good thing.

I guess the opposite of liberal would be Bush, bible loving, porn hating idiot.

Liberals control most media. Fox news on the other hand saw it as profitable to go right wing (extreme, right wing actually) so thats where they stand.

Its all about profit in the end.

Actually I disagree.
Most of the people who "control" (i.e. own) the media, are conservative. Wealthy corporations and tycoons own the networks, newspapers, etc.

Journalists tend to be liberal, but the people who sign their paychecks are for the most part very conservative.

I do agree that fox is way off to the right, its practically state run TV.

We need more Libertarians in the media. They are the true Liberals in a classical sense.

I equally dislike Liberal and Conservative political policies on several topics. (For example the Liberal and Conservative views on government. Both want their own form of a police state.)

no they dont but lil2rich4u2 controls gfy!

venturi 08-23-2003 01:34 AM

Man, I am totally coming out here on GFY tonight... Anyway:

Why can't citizens of the USA embrace the fact that they are Americans 1st and (insert political party here) second. In fact, why can't they actually refer to themselves by the former and get over the latter.

Folks in the USA, there does not exist a candidate or party that fits *everything* you believe in. You need to review all the possibilities before you make judgment and vote your conscience. Take a few minutes each day to re-read the texts that you hated to read when your Junior High or High School government teachers tried to educate you. Read the constitution, read the many other documents that have formed this country. Learn, then vote accordingly. It amazes me how many "voters" are in fact complete fucktards and have no idea of what they are voting on. No wonder things are in such disarray in the USA.

(sorry, I'm ranting but this PISSES ME OFF because I gave six years of my life to the USMC to ensure that our way of governing ourselves stayed intact. And I know for a fact that there are a large number of posters here that also gave portions of their life in the Armed Services.)

Want change? Then educate yourself and vote! Want education? Great! Start by going to the library and reading. Failing that, go to http://www.khahan.com/ it's a growing source of information and discussion of all things American (USA).

The problem I see with this country (the USA) is that most people have just given up. They feel like their voice doesn't matter. Well, it DOES. Every voice counts and when there is a chorus of voices pointed at the people that are supposedly "representing" us they can not ignore us for very long.

anyway I'm ranting a hella lot and I should shut up. All I ask is that each of you that read this post sit back for a minute and think about what I just typed. If you don't agree with me that's ok, if you do then fantastic.

ummm thanks for the civics lesson venturi.

nothing or everything. The thread deteriorated well before I chimed in. I merely was addressing some of the replies that were more "political" than addressing the initial post. The "liberal" crap is what probably caused my response. :D
