How will you relax once you're retired?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately... I think mostly it'll just be lounging outdoors at night listening to crickets and watching my beard grow... As my grandfather grew old he was very fond of playing pool with his friends, watching golf on TV and wandering the streets aimlessly lost and senile... hehe... Anyway I'm sure you all have images of what it will be like if you're not already living it now like quiet.

My ex's grandfather has a sweet setup in the country -- he built a house out there -- has a little pool -- a garden with a pond, machine/woodshop, a big tower for the kids to swing down from on a pully... a little tiny guest house out in back -- a place for the dogs and a golf cart to get around. He's a pro at racing pidgeons -- he had them out there in a shack. He was telling me some some of the strategy behind it -- pretty cool. Forth of July was always a blast out there! We had a custom pine car track and helped all the kids modify their cars... hit some golfballs and shot some clay pigeons and of course fireworks. Good times!

I'll probably commit suicide before retirement.

I had no idea pigeon racing was such a huge sport. BIG money gets involved in these races. You don't just race one bird -- you put money on each bird and the more birds you use the better your odds. They have a whole system of using pigeon timers to calculate who wins. Pretty cool shit.

I'd like to get a place in Montana or something... far away from people and grow herbs (not herb). I'm a big fan of the herb garden. Very relaxing.

Racing. Bunch of guys form a club -- they all have their own land where the pigeons want to fly back to (home with the lady pigeons)... I've never seen this in person but they launch all the birds from a remote location -- the first bird home wins... I'm guessing they tag the birds and they probably do some distance calculations to determine the winning birds.

Anyway there are various techniques to get the fastest birds... seems like a no-brainer but it's actually pretty cool.

House in Cape Cod, on the ocean. Gorgeous all year round and desolate in the winter.

Retirement sucks. 5 years into it and I bet you that most of you will go out of your minds with boredom.

dont tell me you cant find anything fun to do besides work

KRL 08-21-2003 02:18 PM

Retirement? What's that?

Tried it in my 30's and I got bored silly. Playing golf and shopping for new toys everyday gets old fast. The thrill of new business ventures keeps you alive and energized.

I doubt I ever will, this isn't that hard and it's something you can do in your spare time so why retire?
