"Black Hawk Down" - damn good flick

Just seen it.

Kickass :ak47:

Jinx_Co 08-21-2003 03:35 AM

I agree, it was a pretty damn good movie.

Matt_WildCash 08-21-2003 04:05 AM

Yes an overload to the system it was just HARDCORE ACTION + HARDCORE ACTIONAND MORE HARDCORE ACTION. I left the cinema feeling exshasted from that movie, my brother the same. Totally different watching it on home 42inch TV. Just not the same without a good home cinema.

Really showed off what a nightmare wars like that were, the kill rates for those Marines were damn amazing too. The black rebels were just cannon fodder

Tuga 08-21-2003 04:11 AM

Loved it :thumbsup

bigdog 08-21-2003 04:29 AM

yeah its a kick ass dvd when you got a great sound system

Madball 08-21-2003 05:26 AM

On the big screen , those pans across Mogadishu from the chopper's perspective just left you with your jaw dropping to the floor.

Ridley Scott just kicks ass, nobody touches the eerie feelings he has to his movies. See Bladerunner and Alien, same thing.

SMG 08-21-2003 05:28 AM

heh just watched that on showtime or somethin a couple days ago

Mike Dutch 08-21-2003 05:30 AM

At nighttime, lights out, 5.1 system (big screen), some beer !

Really awesome!

GeoHuck 08-21-2003 06:43 AM

Saw it right after it was released, but still remember it vividly. The scene where the 'rebels' come running to the downed Blackhawk and then just open fire on the guy actually had me saying, "Kill those motherfuckers!" over and over in the theater.

I'm still pissed...at least when we went into Iraq, we went in from the very beginning with the necessary initial force. That's why that shit is going a little better than Somalia/Mogadishu.

yeah that was cool...the sound effects really did it for me...when they are flying in the chopter..and there is a machine gun fight...you can hear everything so clearly..the machine gun sounded very slow...like pop pop pop...then they turned on the gun in the chopper...what a difference...it sounded like a line of death

But, I have never seen a war flick more realistic than the beginning of Saving Private Ryan.

The beginning of that film is the only war film shot in a POV perspective. If you have not seen it you have to check that one out.

Black hawk down is a great vid too.

Whats mind boggling in Saving Private Ryan is the level of detail. In the final battle scene the decimated US troops face a crack German Waffen SS brigade.

In one scene, its comander comes rolling down an alley in a Tiger tank, giving commands in a now extinct German accent (eastern Prussian), my Grandmother used to speak that exact accent.

Gotta give thumbs up to Spielberg for that movie, although I hate the vast majority of his other stuff.

loverboy 08-21-2003 07:11 AM

Jerry's production is always a Blockbuster to watch :thumbsup

afrocreep 08-21-2003 07:25 AM

that and saving private ryan, but what really blew me away was the Band of Brothers series.

As for slaughter We Were Soliders was crazy at the end. i was just like "holy shit"

NoCarrier 08-21-2003 07:49 AM

I am sure the american soldiers who experienced the battle of Mogadishu and those who lost their lives would be happy to know that the people who saw the movie thought the sound and special effects were fucking cool.

Technology has increased the power of an individual solider. Today one soldier can do more to mess up his enemy than ever before. We have made war less personal. Generally speaking of course.

I think about those Americans getting shot at like ducks over there. I would not want to be there now as a foot soldier. Each one that dies has a family and is younger than I.

I think it has to be done and if I was 18 and I had to go I would. We need a strong position there and Israel is to small. Saddam was a Tyrant dictator King and he did not like the Jews, Israel, or America. The United States is the only country with balls enough to do this - Step up to the plate and get it done.

Someone has to do it or Sept 11th will be happening 4 times a year. So when you watch those war movies think about that.

It was a great movie, but nothing beats Saving Private Ryan :thumbsup

I think you missed my point..

And wtf are you talking about anyway? :1orglaugh

Do I really need to explain my sarcasm? Movies like Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, or mini-series like Band of Brothers are not meant to "glorify war". If the only message the majority of people got are the special effects and cool sound then I am losing faith in humanity.

If CNNis your only source for news and information you need to find alternatives.
