NEW.NET - Domains...
Is anyone actually using the New.net domains?
http://www.new.net If so, how are they working out for you? I know they require a browser plugin, but, I'm curious if they are hard to promote, and what your take on them are. Any feedback is useful. Thanks |

damn :( |
New.net is an IdeaLabs, Inc. company. The concept is pretty solid, but, the fact that it requires a browser plugin for the surfer to actually be able to visit the site is a bit lame.
I'm thinking all the plugin is doing is changing the default domain search path to use their servers before going to ICANN. I'm not positive on this though. They've been around a long time though, I just haven't ever seen a real site using them. I've inquired with hosting companies to see if they are setup to be compatible with the New.net domains, and they all say that they can. So, I don't know really. I have a feeling that Soul_Rebel is right, and that they are useless, but on the other hand, handing out a snazzy domain like that to your surfers might take them by surprise, and might do well. :helpme |
eh
.com baby |
the problem is the amount of surfers that have this plugin installed. I bet its way less than 0.1% of the total internet surfers worldwide. It's pretty much impossible to market such site because you need to make sure at the 1st stage the surfer has the plugin installed or to make him installed it.....and all this in order to see your domain which in reality doesnt play that important role.

i don't get why it's so hard for them to make it so everyone can see them... www.dot.tk owns the whole .tk extensoin and they are a free web hosting redirect.. don't even make money off of it and seem to have it so it loads on the whole internet
|
they talk about enabled by isps
you should request a list of them is aol, earthlink, netzero, compuserve etc there? they even have a list of "Expired premium domain names" i guess some guys decided to give up with their fortune early :-) |
he well just having those domains.. i have gotten 77 clicks and 1 sign up in the last week or 2 :Graucho

why is that? i see people worrying about the google toolbar that has popup killer and others claim that surfers do not install it, same goes for alexa and so on. Personally although I know about these domains I've never seen any plugin anywhere to install it and enable them. I can't see how the average surfer will install this plugin...the only case is if it's enabled by his isp |

I am also against them, IMO there should be only a few TLD's. BTW, you can vote here: http://gofuckyourself.com/showthread...hreadid=164742 |

But, it's sill 1 more step that a surfer has to do before getting to your site. EDIT: Well, I just tried to go to one of the sites, and it seems that it isn't automated anymore. I just get a 404. So, I retract my "automated" blurb. I know it used to work. Maybe the new version of IE or something has killed it? |
Fuck New.Net, that shit when installed on a computer will fuck up their whole Internet. I have to take that shit off so many customers machines at work because when it is installed half the time you can't access any fucking webpage.
|
FRANKENSTEIN, it doesnt happen to me when i click on the domains that cash69 posted

who cares.. it's just a little gamble.. spend 500$ on a few domains that are really good.. if they become popular you become rich.. if they don't you loose 500$ there is still alot of good one's left
|
LOL... Here's their FAQ section...
http://www.new.net/help_faq.tp#p2 |
what they do right now is a redirect.. so say you got the domain www.amateurs.xxx when you goto it in IE it's actually the page http://www.amateurs.xxx.new.net/
|
cash69 post influenced me. I'll get a couple domains too

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=.x...n=20&fl=0&x=wrt
http://www.google.com/search?source...xxx%2Enew%2Enet I guess google has the plugin. By the way, I can't access them when I type them in my browser but I can see every one of them I click on from google. And here's a real doozie... http://www.creditcards.xxx.new.net/ |
We registered a domain on one of the new.net tld's about a year and a half ago. At the time we ran a test to see how many people could access that domain. We ran portion of our traffic through a counter on a .com domain and then did a 403 redirect to the new.net domain. Only about 15% of the traffic was sucessfully redirected. In short they're useless.
