Does anyone have a flashlight?

Well that was an adventure. I was at the Vet's office with Bowie when the lights went out. First we went to the store got water and candles and then went home to realize we forgot the most important thing... BEER! So it was back out on a beer run. Everyone in the neighborhood was hanging out on their stoop drinking and hanging out and we just had a big party. Then when it got dark we brought out the candles. Eventually we had a whole band out there playing tunes for everyone... a trumpet player, a mandolin, a guitar and some percussion. It's nice how something like this brings everyone together.

The lights went on here this morning... but we just got back online. It was fun while it lasted but I'm glad to be back.

I had to go to the washroom at work, just as the power was going off.

Luckily my cell phone light is very bright :)

Lucky you!! When our lights went out we had to try to entertain a 3 year old with no tv and no lights (our son is visiting relatives so he was ok), and NOBODY knew wtf.. In a small town like this one, when all the radio stations just DIE, it generally gets ugly :(

The worst part was we had no dinner... there was no way to cook and of course we forgot to get anything to make sandwiches. But today I found out that around the corner the pizza place had a generator and they were making pizza until they ran out of ingredients. My friends said it was so packed. They must have made a ton of money.

Yeah I had some people come over that live in apartments and such for some sweet BBQ action :)

Otherwise they would have been out of luck, maybe grab a bag of chips or something from the store.

It was fantastic! It was like one big party! We should have a Blackout night every year. I was in Union Square where there were drums and people dancing just like a nightclub all night long. There were plenty of bars open so we were all smashed and friendly. Good times! I'm glad everyone was on the same page with this and there was no ill will all across the city.:glugglug

electricity is good

Mutt 08-15-2003 09:50 PM

was cute here, three kids, boys maybe 12 or 13 were controlling traffic at an intersection - cops let them do it or nobody saw them.
saw other men who had pulled over doing the same.

my dog went into respiratory distress about 15 minutes before the power came back on - thank god, she couldn't have taken much more, was so fucking humid in the house and not much better outside.

gonna be THOUSANDS of Blackout Babies in 9 months :Graucho

Glad to hear you guys are okay Nina!

Rictor 08-15-2003 10:25 PM

We were losing power here about once a week during the summer thunder storms. I was getting used to candlelight board games and keeping the food in ice chests.

Gutterboy 08-15-2003 10:25 PM

Nice to hear it was a positive experience for some people.

Saw a similar thing happen once when I got stuck with thousands of other people on the 7 mile long San Mateo bridge one night. It was a 49'ers game night and a bunch of people were heading home from the game with leftover tailgate party supplies in their cars. When it became obvious we were going to be stuck there for an hour or two the beer, food and stereo's came out.

Fucking bridge party.. very cool. Made a few friends that night.

Imagine how fustrating this was for the poor terrorists who caused the blackout. They expected everyone to panic and shiver and for it to be a bigger disaster than 9/11. The media gets out there that it was just a big screw up and everyone had a party and is sayign they want it to happen AGAIN!
