haha that's some funny shit!

Yep, I'm sure it did. Thats why it jumped into Cleveland and Detroit and central Canada, skipping Pittsburgh and Philly and Newark and all those other cities in between.

The physical layout of the affected areas simply does not lend itself to a force of nature or a single point of contact causing the problem.

What's more likely in my mind is that some kid figured out some common denominator in all their computer systems and thought he'd have some fun.

He's probably shit his pants three times by now.

It's pretty much what anyone who can pass the Jaywalking with Leno geography test would be thinking, as I see it. :)

They were simply reporting what the Canadian Prime Minister's spokesman claimed. As of now, the "lightning" comment is very dubious - especially since no storms or lightning activity was in the area. The Niagara power plant operators are also denying that it started there. It will take some time to determine the true source.

Pardon? You think some 13 year old hacker did this? That is almost as funny as the 'act of terrorism' theory.

What happened was this - lightning struck the station in NY, the surge travelled up the grid to a major Niagra station and blew something there. THAT is why it knocked out so much power spread across the NE US and Canada.

Didn't you take science in school? Electricity is some dangerous shit, especially when you are talking about voltages of this magnitude.
