Dunno about you, but I don't like scripts/programs connecting to the Internet from my comp.

Cisco 806/Norton Personal Firewall/Windows XP built in.

Linksys = Pure crap sorry.

TheSaint 08-14-2003 02:30 PM

All software firewalls blow. ZoneAlarm trashed the IP stack and caused OS reinstall on at least 2 friends of mine's pc.

Spend the $35 and get a hardware router.

whitey 08-14-2003 03:27 PM

agnitum plus the lame xp one.

agnitum has actually done a pretty decent job.

Elli 08-14-2003 04:05 PM

Kerio works fine for me. ZoneAlarm slowed down the system way too much and kept crashing.

I've posted this many times since my arrival at GFY I think....

The last FREEWARE version of Tiny Personal Firewall (2.0.15)
is probably one of the easiest to use, software firewalls available.

And it kicks ass - it has just the right amount of features, but not so many that it would overwhelm too many people.

You can get it here

But you should STILL run a good hardware firewall/router/switch combo blackbox (like LinkSys, Dlink, SMC etc.. but stay away from SMC).

GFED 08-14-2003 04:51 PM

I'm using a FreeBSD Router/Gateway with APF installed.

PowerCum 08-14-2003 04:55 PM
