Why do people get viruses and such all the time?
It kinda amazes me how many people get hit with worms, viruses, spyware, etc. How do they manage to even do that?
I'm online 24/7, do download and use software from dubious sources like kazaa, but my firewalls, anti-virus software and spybot don't seem to let anything slip through. So howcome so many people get infected with all kinds of shit? Do they just not use any kind of protection or what? |
im online 24/7
constantly working and downloading shit havent ran a wall or AV since maybe 98? no problems to speak of. I find alot of my friends that get virii, they are the ones on AOL clicking on every link that is mailed to them. |
I'm too lazy to get a firewall. I very rarely install anything new.

also... they open the email msgs with attachments, something very stupid to do. some dont even know AV's programs exist!. they just scream for :helpme: when they get fucked, and dont even know who fuck them... they always blame the h4x0r$! lol.. |
Unfortunately I was under the impression that I didn't need a firewall, since I am stuck on dialup.
Obviously this latest worm proved me wrong. Other than this one time, I haven't had any problems, and I don't use antivirus software. |
That like asking, why does SoBeGirl get herpes all the time?
Some would call it bad luck, others would call is karma :Graucho |
Most folks are either ignorant or lazy doing their virus database updates.
I had a friend recently whose machine I helped get cleared out with viruses. She hadn't updated her virus database for 2 years, since she bought the system and wasn't even aware you had to. Its often the "well it won't happen to me" train of the thought. |

As long as WebTV and AOL persist, the pool of potential electronic disease vectors will remain.
