Study of Bush's psyche touches a nerve

The authors also peer into the psyche of President George Bush, who turns out to be a textbook case. The telltale signs are his preference for moral certainty and frequently expressed dislike of nuance.

"This intolerance of ambiguity can lead people to cling to the familiar, to arrive at premature conclusions, and to impose simplistic cliches and stereotypes," the authors argue in the Psychological Bulletin.

Seems like common sense to me.

Does nothing go on in Quebec that is worth talking about? You have one of the worst cases of American envy I have ever seen.

ADL Colin 08-13-2003 09:04 AM

Haha. It's true. What's left out is the opposite affliction. Conservatives and liberals are both neurotic and afraid. They are just afraid of different things.

Pretty quiet up here:

- invaded nobody
- Last election were clear cut
- No political recall
- no actors running for office
- Haven't found any WMD, because we are not looking for them
- No daily killings of canadian troops ( couldn't afford it anyway..lol)
- No killing of friendly troops ( mainly no Pakistanis...)
- No scandals of huge bankruptcies...

Fuck, I think I will move to the US ...

PS: I didn't see any envy in that post, more lile repulsion.

But did they really need to spend 1.2m to find out that most hard ass conservatives are intellectually stunted, narrow minded crackpots who believe their opinions are absolute truth?

Uh huh, my point is that a vast majority of threads you post are bashing Bush, US foreign policy, or other political affairs that don't have anything to do with you. Not that those things aren't really easy to bash right now, but I am just curious why you think your opinion matters to anyone...least of all Americans?

I find it all really amusing. You all clam to hate Bush and US policies yet you can't stop talking about them at great length.

ADL Colin 08-13-2003 09:26 AM

I propose the Law of the Conservation of Idiocy.

For every close minded overly religious zealot Conservative there's a whacko out of their mind conspiracy theorist Liberal.

It's easy to see here in the middle but probably nearly impossible if you belong to one of the above two groups. If you can't see it, you are part of it.

Directfiesta fits some classic psychological profiles. There are pages and pages written on his TYPE in DSM IV ;-)

In an ideal world they would cancel each other out and the middle would rule, but there is an imbalance in the force. Either the religious zealots are becoming numerically greater (outbreeding the libs maybe?), or the conspiracy theorist liberals aren't doing their part.

Personally I think its the former. ultra-libs tend to be childfree, out of the closet gay, or have few kiddo's in far greater numbers than ultra-conservatives. Those fuckers breed like bunnies.

Why do you say that? Where is the imbalance?

Take a look at the US, for example. Nearly split elections in both the presidential race and the congressional races. The Senate is 51 Republicans to 48 Democrats.

For that matter, much of the rest of the western world has become increasingly liberal the in the post-World War II period.

That is your point of view... But do you think this administration can have an influence

- on my business
- on my US tax rate on my US corp
- depreciation of my US real estate
- cost of doing business
- on Canadian economy
- on Canadian ( and elsewhere to that effect) politics
- on Canadian $$$

On one side, Americans always say that you are the " superPower" and have influence on the whole world, and now on another side you say that , as foreigners , we shouldn't even take notice of what you are doing...

Doesn't make sense to me.

I really don't care or feel influence from Zimbabwe or Sierra leone or to that effect any little fuck town in the middle of Iowa ...

If Sandra Day O'Connor and/or Souter retire, Bush will likely appoint the same Scalia clones he's been trying to get on the circuit court benches. If Bush wins another term, its within the realm of possibility that we will see right wing religious nutters in control of all 3 branches of government at once.

I'm sure it wouldn't last long. Like Gingrich's "republican revolution" the people would get eventiually get wise and boot them out of congress again, but not before the damage has been done to the SCOTUS and the circuit courts.
