Major Warning To All Internet Users!!!!!

There is a worm out there that requires no user interaction and is self replicating.

What does that mean? You don't have to open an e-mail to get it. It shuts you down from the internet. Enabling a fireway slows the effects down. (It can eat up ram to the point of freezing your PC), and although it doesn't seem to destroy data on your PC, it will kick you off the internet after about 2 minutes. (IF that long)

Here's the fix.

You may think I am talking doomsday bullshit, but everyone I know has either gotten it or fixed it. Those of you that have accepted the regular windows updates may be exempt with a patch that came out a month or so ago.

No green tea, I have been offline most of the last few days because of this and just finally was on long enough because of my own devises to get help and find out what was going on.

I'm just trying to help.

I did post the fix for all you people that didn't catch it.

It works too.

It's a symantech (SP) fix and not a windows update. Many may have noticed, that the worm has exclusions preventing windows updates...that's what causes the shutdown in the first place...If you disable windows update, you like I did, will have just enough time to download the fix prog.

no problem here using ms-dos 4.0 :thumbsup

"Real" Worms dont need user interaction... thats what a worm is, a little bit of code wich from one computer tries to get to more computers on its own. So theres nothing new here, just this wonderful the helpfull guys at Microsoft has supplied us with ;-) .

NedFLanders 08-13-2003 04:00 AM

Oh and please go here
http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...displaylang=en

after youve used the fix tool to patch your system so that the exploit no longer can be used on your system.
