Is there a patch for it? I have a few friends that are hit with it and I can't find a fix/patch anywhere

Jeffery 08-12-2003 02:09 PM

Ok... it affects win2k and XP. Go to Windows Update and you can fix it asap (or find out you are already infected)

shitstain 08-12-2003 02:24 PM

so is there a patch for people who already have it? If it shouts the machine down in 30 seconds it would be hard to get an update from MS

Sure, man :)
But if microsoft will not have bugs it will loose too many money :)
for example if you use illegal version of XP - you can't update your system via microsoft live update :)

And sure, if you don't like his software - go to freebsd.org :)))

Bill - doing correct :)))

His software has been the target of most attacks because his software powers 90%+ of the desktops and laptops in the world.

I know Win is seriously flawed, btw. ;) But be reasonable. If any other software powered the world, it would be the target of all the attacks and viruses.

Man you're correct!!!
If all will use macOS or Linux for example - crackers/hackers will find too many errors in it too :)))

You all should always keep the Critical Update Notification tool running on your machines. If you had, you would have been alerted back on or around July 16th to patch your OS and you wouldn't be having these problems.

Visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com for the patch. Visit symantec.com for detail removal instructions if you think you already are infected. Search your systems for msblast.exe to find out.

it's looks some hackers write new version of it - it's now polymorth :)
so better way to be 100% ensure you don't have it - reinstall windows XP :) and sure on other HDD and doubly check all files from old one, before move them to new :)

jeroman 08-12-2003 02:42 PM

search for msblast.exe and remove it.
if you can't remove it, look at symatechs site, they have script.

The Go Here to get the microsoft fix

Not the update zone so if you have no registered copy it
doesn't matter.

According to news you should do this asap cause
when millions of users wanna download the same
thing on their servers you might not succed installing
it before your computer restarts / crash.

Rutopls 08-12-2003 02:44 PM

Or just get a clue and run a firewall on your dedicated connections. No worries about patching if they cant touch the machines...

Sure firewalls - best thing, but not microsoft :)
on linux firewall is built right in all u have to do is configure

I was used FreeBSD, but anyway XP - have more things like Exel, Photoshop, Corel and so on... and sure games :)

lets see what replaces Exel, Photoshop, &Corel

OpenOffice and KOffice
OpenOffice 1.0.2 is a full-featured office suite that includes a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation applications. OpenOffice 1.0.2 is available in 20 different languages, it can read and write most types of Microsoft Office documents such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint files replaces
OpenOffice REPLACES
office 2000
the gimp replaces Photoshop with easy to use features
The GIMP 1.2.3 is the latest version of this world-class image editing application.
A large selection of scanners are supported which can be easily utilized with XSane and The GIMP.
Kontour is a vector drawing application similar to Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator.
Gphoto and XawTV lets you use digital cameras with Mandrake Linux.
XMMS 1.2.7 is a premier multimedia application which supports many sound and video formats such as MP3, OGG and MPEG-video.
Grip 3.0.5 is an easy-to-use program for ripping audio CDs.
Cdrecord 2.0.2 and XCDRoast are available for burning CD-Rs and DVD-Rs.
Xine 0.9.18 is a video player for viewing unencrypted DVDs.

this is all on which i just picked up over the weekend PowerPack Edition 9.1

now why is it I need 20 different software packages, when all the features pasted above from http://www.mandrakesoft.com/products/91/powerpack
comes on 7 cd's
