Who showed you the ropes?
Surely not everyone just stumbled through this shit on their own.
Anyone you would'nt be where you're at without? And if you did make it with nobody's help, what was your inspiration/path to knowledge? |
I invented the ropes.
|
I just stumbled through this shit on my own.

i got a summer job in the genetics lab of one of my professors after year III. i had free reign of the computers, and usually worked at night (so usually by myself or with one other lab guy). i started building shitty websites purely for the fuck of it.
that was 1995 - i started a virtual hosted adult website in '96. no one did fuck all for me. i built my entire business out of nothing, and am doing better in 2003, then ever before. there are many other veterans that read gfy, and none of them can say the did a single fucking thing for me. which is pretty satisfying, and very obvious. i did something no one else ever tried on such a grand scale. all i've encountered are pathetic copycats. literally dozens upon dozens of them over the years. and here i am :) |
i learned alot from ANS board originally. Other ppl also tought me alot:
xratedjoe rockstar (dont laugh, he helped me alot) Sly Soul Rebel Stocktrader GoGoBar TDF (as much as i hate to admit it) Equinox (before he began being a dick to me) Mark Tiarra Although i contribute any and all of my success to one single man ... Fletch XXX Those long late night phone chats put me right on track about 3 months ago. He tought me all his tricks and now i rake in the bucks from it. Thanks bro! :thumbsup |
just adapted what I was doing to porn
|
Kevin Ho, and Platinum dave set me on my path.
|
Taught myself and had a little help from the australian porn mafia.

In started off coding in VB (cheesy AOL applications). I then started off making personal webpages that I used to distribute my programs. From there I started an adult humor site called Slapass.net. After I sold that, I started working for Dr Bizzaro who showed me the ropes about the adult internet world.
I can solely attribute my knowledge of the adult side of the web to him. There have also been many other helpers out there, but my hats go off to him! |
A very nice man ezmoves got me started. Started me off on adult personals and the rest I learned on my own =)
|
There was no one there to show me even a piece of twine at the time within my niche, much less any ropes. Didn't stop me, just went ahead, did what I wanted and helped along those that followed soon after.
Later down the line, a fellow by the name of Roz (who goes by a different nick now) showed me a trick or seven that helped a lot. But the time I really missed the boat was when I told Steve way back then that "no one would have any interest in cheerleaders"... :) |
I would have to say Ynot Bob and Steve Sweet. They set a good foundation. The rest I learned on my own and hard work....
|
I learned a lot from my buddy Dennis Beentjes who used 2 workk for payserve.com as well, great guy! I owe him a lot
|
on my own
|
By stealing my $2000 +$150/month, an internet con artist indirectly showed that I had to learn about HTML, traffic and hosting ....

Had it not been for the appeal of this unknown technology called CD-ROM we would have never tried to recreate the demand the way video's did in 1967 [if you had a VCR at the beginning porn films were all there were to use with it] Our inspiration was to pioneer, and the demand drove us to imporve the product and we placed the first commercial covers in the package to dress it up and look commercial. The legal system and justice hammered our ass for 16 million for copyright infringements when we learned there was no such thing as public domain [we used BBS scans on the cd's]. So we started publishing legitimate content in 1993, and set the way for other BBS sysops to use legitimate content as well, and we came to the web in 1995 and offered webmasters the same legal opportunity to use legal content and not newsgroups so that would not suffer the fate that we did. |

For the most part I just stumbled through this shit on my own, but got a bit of help from ...
Tom Blanchard and MikeFold. Man, that was a long time ago |
TeenGodFather and a friend who's not adult biz anymore.
:) |
In Order:
The Nudist mags found in garbage. My dad's Playboy mags HBO. R rated films. 8 mm x rated films and a projector. NYC 42nd street Porn. The VCR. Porn tapes for sale. Porn tapes for rent. The internet. Verio. Ibill. |
In 1997 - Lee Noga harped at me to get involved. We had a web page (if you want to call it that for AdultDex in 1996) learned a little bit with the help of Hotdog - but it was pathetic.
Went to our first show in Orlando and started WebExpo in 1998 with the help of Aly and Mark Tiarra. A lot of great people helped us along the way - too many to start naming names. Most of it we made up as we went along. Dreaming up and implementing ideas, was always what I did best. But, a lot of it, I learned by listening and turning feedback into 'a plan, and trying to implement new ideas that would be beneficial to other webmasters. That is still what I do today. That is why I watch the boards. |

i started in the biz back in 96 or so, my domain was www.oral-delight.com
I was hosted by adultcandy.com - they made billing etc for me. Later on they stole my domain, and fucked me bad :) So in many ways they thougth me lots of things... |
Well, I've been playing this game for a long time before the Net came around, so I pretty much had a good handle on things already.
But in terms of the Net, I really learned quite a bit about what people wanted to see online from Alt.binaries.pictures.erotica. :winkwink: |

I think if I had to name one person who has really helped me along the way it would be Albert from Platinum Bucks.
He has always been there for me when I needed him, and without him I dont think I would be where I am today. |
no one.
Worked in the adult film biz for years before I was a webmaster. figured the net was cooler than porn sets and porn studios. made the move. |
I stumbled into this shit on my own. Had better not done it ;)

I showed a few people the ropes, they are all millionaires now. I want my cut. |
Brad,
I have no idea if he is alive or not. The guy just up and disappeared. I had some good times with him down in Tenn. shooting content. Those were the days. I guess I should probably thank you for the help in the beginning as well. All the tips and tricks you gave to Tom were passed on to me. :) |
I haven't seen or heard from Tom Blanchard in YEARS...
who showed me the ropes? thats easy.. Ron Levi and Brian Schuster.. tho mainly FM ;) |
I learned from Seth warshavsky, Roger V and FM
