scarification, body modification and even branding can often be done at tattoo/piercing shops, but only after consulting with the artist, checking all references, reading up on the proper sanitation procedures, etc.

There are those of us with more common sense than that. Personally I wouldn't trust a top who would throw hooks and such (needles, cutting, etc..) who didn't know how deep the arterties lie and where they lie.

Consenting adults are persons over the legal age of consent (18-21, depending) and who are NOT under the influence of drugs or alcohol who have had whatever procedures explained and understand that there are certian dangers and have had those dangers explained as well so that they can make informed choices. I've had someone walk away for over a week to study the idea and learn more about it from others before coming back to me to have it done. No worries.

I'm sure you have a few tidbits stored up in that noggin that nobody else can understand.

Its not easy to pierce an artery with a needle if the penetration is kept close to the skin.Unless you're doing it on the neck or joints you'd have to try real hard to hit a big one.

Right, it can be hard to do proper research as a lot of people that are into the scene don't like to talk about it. A lot are in positions of power and it could affect their job/families/livelihoods

I can only speak for people that I know that are into the scene, I can't speak for everyone.

definitely, hygeine is a huge factor. Also, with mutual bloodplay, there is the fear of HIV, hepatitus, etc.

It's all about trust. You have to trust the other person and that's where a lot of the "thrill" of bloodplay, blooddrinking, peirce play, etc. come in. That ultimate trust and the bringing of strong emotions to the surface. It's hard to put into words.
