anyone good with digital cameras?

i just bought one about 10 minutes ago, it came to about $400 total.

"olympus camedia - model D-560 ZOOM"

Well its a beatiful machine for sure, but something really concerns me.

The zoom seams all fucked up!

It says on top of the thing that it has 10x zoom, then on another spot it says 3x zoom ...

when i turn cam on and zoom as far as i can, its like the REAL image is closer than my zoomed view.

make sense? in other words, the zoom is actually like a negative zoom at its furthest amplification setting.

Is this the case with all camera's? My other one said 10x zoom, and it actually zoomed pretty good.

this one is 3.2mp so i figured maybe thats how they all are?

i hope someone can help ...

optical zoom and digital zoom

Digital cams usually have 2 types of zooms built-in. The main one is the optical zoom. This one will give you the most stable image. Usually if you press down and hold the T for telephoto it will then move into digital zoom mode. The picture should look a bit more jittery.

You really need to be on a tripod for the digital zoom to produce a jitter free pic.

Hope that helps.

what is the difference between optical and digital zoom?

does anyone have an article?

maybe this is why it seems so far away? and maybe i can switch to the other one?

Opticle uses the lens and is a real zoom.
Digital uses a chip and kinda guesses.

optical is the lense
digital is software enhancing image (works by splitting the image like a chess board coloring the pixels in between with average color.

lil2rich... I don't mean to be rude...but can you figure nothing out for yourself? A 30 second search on google would give you an answer on the differences between optical and digital zoom.

Yep, its called the dumbass switch. Change it by putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger 3 times. By the third time it will switch over.
