They used to rock..

Due to death and breakups they are a once were..

Same can be said about one of my favorites The Allman Brothers.

Same thing with the Grateful Dead.. I have probably been to about 130 shows and I will not even think about seeing "the dead"

Gemini 08-09-2003 06:25 PM

takin' two steps... takin' two steps, Mister...

I have to agree with you there. Skynrd without Ronnie is like the Dead without Jerry .... like VanHalen without DLR .... :(

That supposed Van Halen reunion a while back would have made MAJOR coin..

Its kind of funny to see Hagar and Roth touring together. (at least they were)

And I just hear that Gary Rossington suffered a mild stroke. They were scheduled to play in Houston this month but had to cancel for 'health reasons'. Pretty soon they're gonna be a ghost band.

Damn! John Entwistle dies ... George Harrison dies ... Mick Jagger turns 60 .... is anyone else starting to feel OLD!

Mojo Rizin 08-09-2003 06:35 PM

I keep saying Keith Richards but that fuck keeps hanging on.

I'll never understand the chemistry factor with bands. I love the red rocker on his own but Van Hagar is NO MATCH for Van Halen (with DLR). On the orther hand, I HATE most of the solo DLR stuff.

When DLR left Van Halen they ceased to exist, IMHO. When Bon Scott died, I thought AC/DC was done too. But with Brian Johnson, they really haven't missed a beat and have done some of their best work with him.

Mojo Rizin 08-09-2003 06:43 PM

At least IMHO AC/DC was Angus Young..

A raspy vocal singer could always be replaced..

Angus with his guitar riffs and stage presence cannot be duplicated.

hehe! I know what you mean. I think that guy has smoked more cigarettes than any other living person without cancer. Add to that all the weed, booze, heroine, speed, and coke he's done and you wonder how he's made it this far. And he ain't slowin' down either, from what I hear .... Some people were just born to make it into old age .

I completely agree with you that Angus IS AC/DC. However, Van Halen WAS and IS Eddie Van Halen, not DLR. Frankly, DLR was (and probably still is) a celf-centered prick but for whatever reason, he and Eddie could make magic whereas Sammy and Eddie couldn't even come close.

Next to Free Bird, that's my favorite Skynrd song. They did like to 'preach at ya' with their lyrics, but they usually made some very good points.

Man ... I'll never understand the dead heads. City to city ... concert to concert .... free love and free drugs ..... COOL people though!

Mojo Rizin 08-09-2003 06:57 PM

The only band I can think of that has carried on with amazing success after losing a vital part of the band is Pink Floyd..

Shit dude they lost their main lyricist, bassist, vocalist and they still carried on with great success.

Granted they carried on using their previous work, but some of their newer stuff is not bad.

I only got to see them about 10 times.. 2 with waters, rest without.. and all I can say is.. OMFG.

TheGoldenChild 08-09-2003 06:57 PM

NEVER TRUST A DEADHEAD.

Tala 08-09-2003 07:01 PM

I wouldnt come close to calling myself a true "deadhead" but man if you ever been to a live show you would understandwhat I mean.

Too many people have said "yeah I have been to a show and it sucked" well guess what. Those same people only went knowing the song "trucking" were smashed, and got disappointed when they couldnt sing the line "high on cocaine" when they didnt play casey jones.
