does it matter making a .wmv from an .avi instead of the compressed mpeg?
 

I have studio DV and it only makes mpegs...However I have microsoft movie maker on my computer and I can make some wmv's....If I made the wmv from the original source avi, would it make any difference in quality than if I made the wmv from the mpeg that studio dv created?

Yes, encode directly from the source if you can
