easiest way to New York

I might be going to New York on Thurs. from the Boston area to go see a Yankees game.

I'm guessing easiest way is to go by bus, but not the cheapest - I don't care to drive my car and leave it there.

Should I just hitch a ride?

How far have you gone just to see one event (concert/sports/etc)

cant you take amtrak from boston to ny...get off at 34th and take the train from there to the stadium. quicker then taking the bus which may get stuck in traffic.

bus goes straight to Port Authority, correct? Any idea how much train is off the top of your head? (ball park figure - no pun intended)

That's what I'd suggest.

A shuttle by plane might not be too bad either. I can take JetBlue from Rochester for $40 each way. I think they fly from Boston to NY as well.

yeah the bus does go into the port but that's an out of the way area and yucky to boot.

i cant imagine a ticket costing anymore then 40.00. but it has been a while since i have taken the train. go herehttp://amtrak.com/ and put in your info. should tell you rates.

Just found out $120/person. More than I thought. Oh well, I'll skip this one this time.

Oooo! Take the train! I'm sure it's pretty reasonable (judging on checking cross-country fares lately) But for the experience if nothing else!! I've never ridden on one, YET, but everyone that I know that has, says its wild. So much to see and I hear the clacking actually is soothing once you adjust to it.

Slightly off topic, anyone here ever read "On the Road"? by J.Kerouac?

I was on some trains as a very small child PunkWorld... and on some rides here that they have as well as at tourist places. But never on one for a serious trip (that I remember). They tore down our local train station in the early 70's and they don't stop here for passengers any more. :( I supposedly was on that one thats so famous in Europe but hey I was like 2. lol

The hubby got to travel on Pullman to Wisconsin several times and has such great stories about the smells, sights, all the things that it really makes me want to do it. Some of my other friends that rode them have about the same things to tell. Call me simple but I think it would be a great adventure.

Just drive to the game, I hate taking the train or bus. When i am ready to leave the stadium there is nothing worse having to wait for the train. You can get a cheap hotel room on the way back to Boston, if you don't feel like driving all the way.

Car is cheapest, but you ain't gonna find parking around Yankee stadium.

I'm not from Boston. I'm a Yankees fan. I'd drive, 7 hours back and forth isn't too bad - it's just parking I worry about. Although, I haven't been there in years - is parking still bad 2-3 hours before a game? It's a 1pm game. I'd plan on getting there around 11am.
