Shaving?

Anybody remember last year one of the top webmaster programs having a big fuck up?

I logged into my admin area and suddenly had a few more sales, nothing spectacular but slightly better than normal.

So i thought i was having a good day. Then i read their message board and noticed that everybody had a few sales extra.

1 hour later the sales dissapeared again and a few posts on their board (about the shaver being broken) dissapeared.

I never heard anything about it i believe.

Would you consider this a case of an error in the shaving option - a shaver turned off for a hour.

I personally dont believe software would suddenly show 30% extra sales out of nowhere.

Im not gonna mention who it is, its not important since i might be completely wrong.

------

I suddenly rememberred this because 2 mins ago i was talking to a buddy of mine and he said a while back he logged into the webmaster area of another program and because of an error he got the companies admin. It showed their stats and beneath it the stats that he was supposed to see (25%) less signups.
When he talked to them they said they were testing new affiliate software....

------

Ive seen numerous people screaming shaving this and shaving that but never putting evidence on the table altho obviously shaving does exist. Remember the dollars4all drama?

beemk 08-05-2003 12:50 PM

what sponsor?

detoxed 08-05-2003 12:51 PM

I dont know about anyone else, but I know for a fact that DatingGold doesnt shave at all. There is no reason to!

Its true what people say. At the end the amount of money youre making is the most important thing.

I rather have a shaving sponsor that makes me 70$ per 1000 clicks than a non shaving one that makes 35.

stocktrader23 08-05-2003 12:55 PM

Yea I hate these fucking threads. If I logged into an admin area and saw a shaver in action I would do the following.

1. Take a screenshot of the page with the evidence on it.
2. Have my wife videotape me taking the screenshot so they couldn't claim photoshop.
3. Call sponsor and raise hell.
4. Tell sponsor if they don't pay me 25% above and beyond what my stats for the entire time I was in their program as well as everyone else that used them there would be hell to pay.
5. If they ignored number 4 I would contact a lawyer and put out the word for anyone using that program to contact me for a joint lawsuit, hopefully for triple damages if possible.

Things I wouldn't do

1. Go to GFY and say I know for a fact a sponsor has been shaving but "I'm not gonna tell you who it is".

Who the fuck is it pussy?

Theo 08-05-2003 12:55 PM

there's no such thing as shaving :glugglug

someone is shaving

Dirty F 08-05-2003 01:00 PM

I hate threads as well that say, this sponsor is shaving but im not gonna show proof.

If i one day have proof i will show it...im not on the look out for it but if i bump into it, whatever program it may be, i will post it.

As for signups appearing and dissapearing, i dont see that as proof. I dont know how their software works, altho i find it odd.

But i wont go to the board and accuse them of shaving cuz of a messy stats area.

I'm just fucking around with the name calling. However, your bud saw someone that most likely had a shaver in effect. Call their ass out on the board and let them explain that in front of the webmaster community. Don't tell us you have a good idea a company is shaving but not name them. If they aren't shaving I'm sure they'd be happy to come here and defend themselves.

I'll keep him out of this. I asked if i can post this saying i wont mention any names, which i wont.

If he wants to talk about it, its up to him, im not gonna ask.

FATPad 08-05-2003 01:09 PM

I'm confused then. You hate people that insinuate sponsors are shaving, you relate two stories about potential shavings, then say nothing else?

I don't get this thread at all.

Im not saying they are shaving...read read read...
Im just wondering what other people think of cases like this.

Maybe some program owner can explain affiliate software and how this like this can happen.

Don't you know,

"It doesn't matter if the sponsor shaves. It's who makes me more money".

Nobody seems to care if a sponsor is breaking the law and stealing money from you as long as the checks are bigger than the next sponsor.

Wanna stop shaving? Then join us! We have 10 Sponsors who we are in discussions with from the show to allow us to audit them (joining PornKings and Flashcash who we currently audit)...but Sponsors are demand driven...if you guys demand it they will change, they must.

Our audits are random, test both joins and hits, gets the information directly from the processor and makes sure a program doesn't shave (our traffic or anyone who joins with us)...it's free to sign-up as a webmaster and no longer requires you to re-direct through us...we provide a list to Sponsors of WM's who have joined our site and "may or may not" conduct audits on their traffic...just the ability to, will keep them straight. And if you don't believe us, then test it for yourself using our re-director service...again, it is free for webmasters, we charge a flat monthly fee to the Sponsor.

So, tell your sponsors that you want them to be audited, and if you already use PK and/or FC give us your WM info and we'll put you on our list (what we like to call the DNFSM list).....

I'll leave it up to you to figure out the acronym:-)

I wont name the sponsor concerned because i dont have screenshots to prove what i saw. Bat and myself were discussing sponsors and the topic of shaving came up and i simply mentioned what I had seen in the past. Hes just interested in anyone elses similar shaving related experiences.

btw i shaved my crotch once and it itched like fuck for a couple days, now i just trim :winkwink:

GFED 08-06-2003 05:56 AM

I remember that sponsor... don't see them whoring the board as much as before...

I notice that all the sponsors I think shave use the same stats program too...

Um ..... actually ..... I do need to correct you there. There is a reason to, and the reason is to make more money. :)

Sausage 08-06-2003 06:26 AM

Look guys shaving is a fact .... get used to it. even if they don't shave your sales, they take the cheque signups, or even take the exit console signups, or something.

I worked on a shave script for one of the top 10, and it is a work of art. It can smooth out bumps, take the lucky streaks and even manages to see when the traffic you send drops and can credit a shaved sale back to you to keep you sending. ever noticed when a sale just seems to pop up when you are sending next to no traffic ?? Anyhow, no auditing will fix the problem either ... too many ways to hide it.

Look, shaving will always happen and nothing will change it. The plugin script that we worked on was only set at around 15% resolved with a 5% buffer, so Its not too bad. I've seen one program which converted like a fucking dream and had average 4 months retention, and they shaved 50% and STILL had webmasters lining up. :)

Same people as i talked about above..after a long time of promoting them i deceided to pull the plug cuz my ratios were pathetic at that moment...some traffic slipped through from some old links...were talking 20 a day and fuck me in 3 days i had 2 sales.

Still, this can be coincedence...i dunno.

Arent you afraid you will get flamed hard for telling this? Youre basically helping cheaters cheating.

Dirty F 08-06-2003 06:38 AM

Sausage,

My first post, sales suddenly showing up and then dissapearing again....would you call this an error in the shaving software? Or do you have any other ideas what that might be?

As long as the cheater pays well, why should he care. When you use any PPS program you must assume that you are being shaved. Anything else is pure ignorance.

Battuss It's sad but a lot of sponsor shave. A lot of person here will tell you that your sponsor dosen't shave but when you do over 30 sales a day for few sponsors it's easy to see the game. When you do only one or two signup a day it's hard to say that. Anyway I understand you. :thumbsup

I have no idea. The 'shaving' plugin was built into the signup script and sent shaved signups to a different account through the same processor .... if there was a glitch then in theory you shouldn't have had any signups. I don't know what your sponsor was using, so I really cant comment. anyhow ... just accept shaving.... you really don't lose anything much. $35 per signup is bullshit.

Not really. I honestly don't know of any partnership sponsors that shave (apart from capping the payout on month length), but if you really thing that $35-$40 per signup is what you earnt for a sale then ..... you deserver to be shaved.

bellskids 08-06-2003 08:01 AM

Ive heard that some 3rd party billers allow the paysites admin to disable rebills from being credited to affiliates. Any truth to that?

Also we all know it goes on all over the place but that doesnt mean shaving should be tolerated. Isnt it illegal?
