BOSTON ? An immigration judge was placed on administrative leave Monday after complaints that he made jokes about Tarzan to a woman who had been raped and tortured in her native Uganda.

The woman, whose first name is Jane, went before Judge Thomas Ragno in June, seeking political asylum in the United States, saying government soldiers killed her husband and attacked her.

"Jane, come here. Me Tarzan!" Ragno said, according to the woman's doctor, who attended the June 20 deportation hearing to testify as an expert witness about the woman's claims.

"It was disrespectful and insulting, and in my mind it was racist to have a white judge making Tarzan comments to a black woman," said Dr. Sondra Crosby.

Ragno also dialed the weather number on his speaker phone so he could listen to the weekend weather forecast and talked in open court about looking for a new condominium, Crosby said. The judge rejected the woman's bid for asylum.

Umm in the movies I have seen, Tarzan and Jane are both white.. the judge made them interracial... big fucking deal. How is that a put down? He made a comment about her name and it had nothing to do with race. He is an idiot and probably shouldnt be a judge for calling up the weather and talking about his personal life in court though.

Oh, the fact the judge had a smile on his face makes it all okay. I suspect he'd have a smile on his face if he told a little black sambo joke too.

I don't happen to see it as racist either - just outrageously stupid and in extrememly poor taste.

It is kind of funny to see how many people get their panties in a knot over something like this, though - and people crying racist aren't the only people prone to play the race card.

I don't see it as a racist joke but I do see it as woman's discrimination and a insult to her intelligence (not to mention that the judge wasn't all to bright to have said it in the first place)
