how to prevent (or atleast catch) gallery theft
prolly not the best way, but it would work ....
on your gallery, add a 1x1 image and img src your own tgp (dont lie, you know you have one) add your gallery url as a trade and disable it. every hit you get to gallery should register a hit on your tgp from that disabled trade. now every now and then check referring url for that disabled trade ... it will show a list of all the gallery mirrors recieving traffic. IF there were any stolen ones, it would be on a different domain, and you can go there to see the recips and where it is listed, note the domain thats used, come here and expose him. :thumbsup oh god i cant wait to see the replies on this one .... lets here it fletch |
Are you stupid or something?
|
Why would you want to image source your TGP? There are much better ways to do this.

dunno i never gave much thought into how to catch these things, but accidentally named an image one day, and my 404 went to TGP .... needless to say i disabled the trade, and watched the referrers .... nobody stole it though. figured if they had, id see it in referrer stats |

Stupid aspects of the idea:
#1: Why img src a real page when you could just use a blank page with just the trade script ssi? #2: Why img src a page and not just a script directly? #3: Why use a trade script, which does quite a bit more than you need and thus causes quite a bit more server load? In 10 minutes anyone should be able to whip up a little script that can be used for this that only logs the referrer if it isn't one that has been specified beforehand, thus saving your server hundreds of thousands of mysql connections a day. Your solution would most likely melt your server if your gallery got listed at one of the big tgps. And aside from that, it only works with the stupidest of gallery thieves, who blindly copy the entire source code. |
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Rich never stops to amaze me! :1orglaugh

or why not img src a blank html or php file, then check server stats for the file?
