I have tons of raw video what is the best file format to save it in for the best web experience

ie.. wmv, avi mpeg, mp2, rm, etc...

what others choices for file formats are there

what is the all around best, for the surfer and the bandwidth etc.

In view to the surfers, wmv of course. But if you like to sell them, convert them into mpeg

I'm partial to wmv, if they want archival quality video they can buy the dvd (and you can make more money later).

well for me as a content maker we use to do all in mpg , and now all the buyers want it in the wmv , i like i better as well much faster to load , the files are much smaller now .
but we kep them here in case a person wants anther format they can get it that was as well !

what about avi files?

oh dear. no. AVI is what you may capture to and then convert to the other filetypes.

do two and give them an option of MPEG1 and WMV. WMV is great but mac users have a lot of issues as do a small percentage of everyone else, mpeg1 will almost work on a pocket calculator so it's a great standby for anyone else, and of course a lot of surfers have been schooled to prefer MPEGs even though they're bigger.
