2 dell laptops in 6 months died

Out of the blue, I start them up and get an error saying windows can not start, missing some system32 file. I tried windows repair, pretty much have no choice but to reformat. Last one I reformated, now is crashes every 5 mins. Just odd to have EXACT same problem back to back.... Think that will be my last dell.

BRISK 08-02-2003 11:06 PM

Sounds like more of a software issue than hardware

Ya, the guy that sold me mine said that it fell off the back of a truck, but it must not have fallen too far because it runs fine.

I have always had luck with Dells, until the last 6 months. Our office is almost all Dells. What should I buy now? Something I can get quick, small, but can type on easy to use. All I do is surf for porn!

Dell is a piece of crap. I used to work there, and half of the kids don't even know how to put a damn pc together. Pot luck with those dell, compaq, gateway etc machines.

Austin is only 200 miles away from Dallas. Take a little day trip to corporate office.

Jimbo 08-02-2003 11:16 PM

Sony! The One and Only! Try the VAIO Series

Sosa 08-02-2003 11:33 PM

sounds more like a user problem if you reloaded and shit happening like that.

Use your warranty and send it to them to fix it if you can't :)

I've had my 2 IBM 600's for about 3 years.. no trouble with either of 'em. Geting time to upgrade tho.

Ya.

I have a Satellite, and I've hauled it thousands of miles, and it's also the host for our small office network when I'm home.

I don't even use a desktop anymore. My wife does, but this is the primary machine.

I can't say enough good about it.

I've promised it to one of my sales people in Malaysia as a bonus, and I'll be out buying another Satellite before I send it to him.

Yeah and I wasted money on My Ferrari too! But you know I gotta have name brand!

If it's not a software issue then it might be a temperature thing, buggy fans and high temps are death to an OS.

If you do a lot of travelling then Panasonic Toughbooks kick ass.

A-fucking-men! I've been the infosys director with a number of different companies in the non-porn side, and I've had great experience with Sony laptops, and nothing but headaches with Dell, HP/Compaq, and IBM. Dell can make some decent desktops and servers, but the laptops seem to be problematic over the long haul. The problem you describe though, does seem to indicate more of a software issue. But then again most of the laptops nowadays seem to only offer some half-assed "restore to original" recovery ROMs. Sony also has that crappy RTO type of thing, but it offers many more choices on partitions and such.

Why can't any of the laptop manufacturer's just give you an honest to god boot disk and just the real and original untouched operating system, with maybe an extra CD with specific system drivers???

:2 cents:

sounds like nothing wrong with it to me.
99% of computer faults are the user or software rather than hardware i bet if i gave it a full recovery it would be as new.

thekebie 08-03-2003 12:25 AM

Toshiba actually makes some nice laptops.
