was hoping to buy it online (without using ebay)

but why is that one better? what do i look for in these things?

signal range or something?

Juicy D. Links 07-31-2003 10:17 PM

look for 54 mpbs and 802.11g freq

You are aware though that optonline on the wireless will be slow compared to a hardwired pc by alot also

no i wasnt aware.

lil2rich4u2 07-31-2003 10:20 PM

juicy, is it very noticable in speed difference?

will i be sitting here waiting for pages to load or something?

lil2rich4u2 07-31-2003 10:21 PM

You will be much slower cause of the wireless.

Only way around is to just buy a plain router for like 50 bucks and run cables to the new connection.

They dont make those yet for wireless protocols I belive

iroc409 07-31-2003 10:22 PM

i've used the netgear one, and rely on a lot of netgear networking equipment. always had very good luck with them, very dependable product.

It will be like a dsl connection , but it wont be lightning fast as it is now and depending on where you are in relation to the hub the signal can alter

my main pc is 10 feet from hub

others will be as far away as 50 feet.

Ive never used adsl, no clue what a speed difference is going to be.

As long as heavy pages dont drag, i think ill be fine.

Only other thing my speed comes in handy is with the uploading sites, but that is usually not time sensitive, and i can just let it run.

Is the connection stable? Or will i be disconnecting everytime my cell phone goes off, or something?

If you have a 2.4 ghz cordless phone on certain types of routers it will cut the signal

Yeah there are 4 ports in the back for hardwiring 4 more things and you can have unlimited wireless shit.

You also have to get the network cards for anything that is going to be wireless

lil2rich4u2 07-31-2003 10:38 PM

If speed is not an issue for the wireless units, will any of the routers do?

i dont need speed on anything except my main pc, which will be hardwired.

What other things should i be concerned with?

why spend $150+ when i can spend $59? (just asking)

lil2rich4u2 07-31-2003 10:40 PM

why dont they give you a range on these things?

like how far they will reach with wireless? wouldnt each unit be different?

iamwedid 07-31-2003 10:42 PM

NETGEAR wireless ma311 works great, very fast.

it all depends on your house . walls , shit like that range is around 50 feet or so for a decent signal

lil2rich4u2 07-31-2003 10:44 PM

i would like to buy this one http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...1&Sku=U13-4058

providing the range is ok to reach like 50 feet, and there is nothing else i need to look for.

can anyone tell me why NOT to buy it? lol

as i said, i have no need for speed on the wireless units.

there really isnt away around it , is there a reason for wrieless ,
just get the cable and run it threwe the home , ether threw the rook and out and back in ,,,, in the atic down the walls or do it neat and run it around the trim , trust me you will not like the wireless that much :2 cents:

if there are no walls or floors, it only has to go like 25 feet.

but there are 2 floors down, so i guess the walls will decrease signal?
