i was thinking contest only because it will give me good idea of who i can contract for additional work.

why in the fuck would you throw away $1000 on galleries, when you've already seen the work of pretty much every design person here.

It's not like the extra 'publicity' will go a long way for you

Because in a contest like CFF's they have to design the galleries and submit them. Plus they get great galleries for thehun listings.

100 entries is a bit steep to expect unless you're a big sponsor. There aren't a whole lot of designers out there who do quality work that are willing to take a chance on a contest, especially where there is only one chance to win. They could spend that time making galleries for paying clients and have a sure thing.

If you do a contest, you should have more than one prize so that designers feel like they have a better chance to win something. Maybe a $500 prize, a $200 prize and 3 prizes at $100 each. That's five chances to win and I think more people would enter that way.

there are plenty of designers or gallery people that would love a chance for some cash.

if it were me I'd pay a good designer upfront for the galleries, and use the leftover money for promotion
