*POLL* - How Important Is Quality Content?

Hey gang.....I'm very curious to know what you guys think this.

How important is "quality content" to a successful adult website? I've been told by several people in the biz that "quality content" is not needed for a successful website - that it's all just a numbers game / a formula.

In other words......get this many hits - and this many people will join your site and you'll be this successful etc..etc..etc.

Thoughts???

not THE MOST important
but very important indeed :thumbsup

ytcracker 07-28-2003 07:38 PM

i was unaware a website needed content

that must be the missing piece of my $ equation

Gutterboy 07-28-2003 07:38 PM

Adult Check conducted a survey of its users a while ago that confirmed option #4 as the most important. The second thing was quantity.

It depends on the business model.

Exactly. :thumbsup

perhaps quality is not the best word. The most successful adult sites engender a "cult" following and that requires at least distinctive content. Distinctive content is often times either quality, but can also mean hard to find or of a very specific niche.

BlackCrayon 07-28-2003 07:46 PM

quality content might not be needed to get the surfer to the site or even sell it but if you want to keep the surfer a member of your site, i would say its very important.

Interesting for sure. So, that begs the question... what is the definition of quality content? Is it pretty girls? Is it good photography? Is it exclusive material? Or all of those?-

Of course this question is subjective - meaning... everyone will have their own definition of what quality content actually is. But it would be interesting to see what people think quality content is.

Good looking "REAL" girls in real enviroments..... no airbrush, fancy lighing, heavy makeup

In other words, I HATE "glamour erotica/porn" ... PLayboy, Andrew Blake...

AS for good photography, dont care unless it as style... like David Lachapelle would do.... :thumbsup

BUt thats just me, Im I weird!? :1orglaugh

For me, photographic quality is far less important then the story that the content tells. IF the surfer is into voyeur content, good lighting is a huge negatvie, he wants to believe the picture was taken without the girls knowledge. Amateur site vistors want to see real sets shot in a house, not a made up photo set.

The best content for porn sites is shot by people who understand the surfers fantasy and makes it come true.

up to now the billing scheme and the tour determined how well a paysite would perform. From now on things will be different.

#1 Marketing/hits/etc
#2 Content

but they are NECK and NECK for that top spot.....

unless your niche/site is 'shitty content pics.com' :) or maybe some amateur/slutwife/gilfriend site, and THEN you truely want those horrid scanned real polaroids....

:thumbsup :thumbsup

xxxdesign-net, you're not weird, but everyone has different tastes. when mac and bumble came out, they converted like magic - their girls were famous centerfolds and pornstars in beautifully shot glamour pics.

on the other hand, i make money with pics of very average guys masturbating, and i make more money if the pics are clear but the lighting isn't quite right. feels more "amateur", i guess.

i think quality is relative to your niche. if you do glamour, your pics should be large, clear, well lit and the model should be gorgeous and never off to one side of the pics. if you do reality or amateur, you can have less hi res pics and less perfect lighting. it helps the site credibility NOT to have things too perfect. who will believe your site is a little old amateur site if suze randall takes your amateurs, has them made up and then does the shoots?

webair 07-29-2003 01:00 PM

almost like asking how important are signups =)

Good content.. makes for a good tour.. a good tour makes for good conversions.. good content inside your members areas.. makes for better retention...

but agin.. as Sly mentioned its all based on your biz model...

quality content is a great thing to have.. when people pay for a membership they expect to get something better than what they can get for free on every TGP and free site... but also having the right amount or quantity will decide how long the person will stick around before looking for a new piece of ass... errr website...

JohnW 07-29-2003 02:40 PM

Content is king. Without any content (good or bad quality) your site is gonna look pretty lame with just a bunch of text descriptions of pictures that aren't there. ;)
I think the most important thing is, you'd better have what your tour is selling inside your members area, or else you're going to have pissed off customers.
And that content inside your members area better fit the niche and all it represents 100%
As was stated above, if you've got a Voyuer site, the voyuer content inside better look "real" (grainy pics, low light) and if you've got a Porn Star site, those Porn Stars better be made up, have their hair done, and be shot on a high quality set somehwere in Van Nuys. =)

Just make sure you're selling what you're advertising, and buy the appropriate content for it.

J.

Thats the trade off we all have to deal with.

Buy 1 set exclusive, or 10 sets non exclusive for the same price?

Gutterboy, what came in #1/#3?
