Microsoft buys Acacia. Afterall they are in bad financial position, the patents are pretty much the only thing they have (from what i know). This way Microsoft controls the media business online and they can enforce their patents better than anyone.

If Microsoft were to buy the patents, they would probably offer a much more reasonable and professional licensing scale. In many cases, they probably wouldn't even bother small companies and individuals at all.

Microsoft has to worry about their public image and government regulation.

Acacia just wants to try to bully little guys with absurd threats without regard for the ethics or public relations problems it's going to bring them.

In fact, Acacia is probably hurting their chances of being bought out by a mainstream company by going about this in such a fucked up manner.

Yeah, can you imagine having your computer crash every third movie download?
