Uproar over cop shop striptease

DANISH Justice Minister Lene Espersen has demanded an explanation from Copenhagen's chief of police after a stripper performed at a staff party at the city's police station, police said today.

The minister took action following a complaint from the opposition Christian Party spokesman, Jan Sjursen, who said he was scandalised to hear of the striptease.

The controversial performance by Simone, one of Denmark's most famous strippers, took place in late June in the police dining hall.

Simone said she was "delighted" by the audience and the evening, describing it as a "wonderful experience".

Evidently equally delighted, police had decided to hire her services for the next office Christmas party, but given the current uproar they have cancelled the engagement.
