best way to get a peopel to post on a forum/board
 

What ways are there to get people to sign up to and post on a forum?

Not so much a webmaster board, just a general joke site where people can post pics of funny things or make comments to images, movies, etc.

Incentives are one thing I can think of.

Yep. Prizes would be the best way. Get content providers, traffic sellers, etc. to sponsor the contests and give away some free content and traffic for the first few weeks. Maybe every post gets you an entry into the weekly contest or something.

Free DVD players, xbox, t-shirts seem to work wonders here. :)

free stuff always works... it also helps to have some hot girls posting there.

obsiously the amount of ppl and quick replies is what brings me here, other boards is friends and info.

One good beginner tip is to try and concentrate everything in one forum/area. Without an audience for your forum, you can confuse people by having multiple categories/forums. If you're a new site with limited audience, start with just one forum and let your members ask you for more when the need is there.

would anyone here be willing to make posts for banner space? I don't want to send traffic to the site until I have the board with some content and posts.

It's a R site not really X. You can post about anything in general or post funny/nasty pics, stories, etc. or just reply to them.

if you are truly just starting this surfer board, (less than 5-10 regulars posting daily) the very first thing you need is girls posting. The more girls you have, the more popular the board gets. Do whatever you have to, hire people to post, ask your girlfriends, offer free Lancome to all new girl posters, whatever.

Start with 4 or less forums to keep the discussion concentrated in one area. allow avatars, and give em plenty of good ones to choose from and allow them to upload their own.

Have a ranking system, if your site is called "chumper's XXX" like 0-50 posts and you're a "newbie" 50-100 "baby chumper", 100-200 "chumper" and work your way up.. people will post just to reach new titles.

After you get some regulars posting, pin a topic like "looking for new moderators" - this will double your current posters efforts, power on a board to them is like crack.

Once you got some moderators, get them to post daily topics like "favorite movie, favorite love song", and all that bs, somehting everyone can ring on.

Then bring on the prizes. T-shirts are the most effective cheap prize, even works here with millionaire webmasters. Easiest way to do shirts is with cafepress.com, you can make a single shirt with anything you want on it for like $9 or $7 in bulk. Best thread of the week wins a T-shirt, 200 posts wins T-shirts etc..
