Plans for Bruce Lee statue in Bosnia

Plans are being discussed to erect a statue of martial arts legend Bruce Lee in the Bosnian town of Mostar.

Local residents say they want to go ahead with the project as a memorial to one of their biggest heroes before the Balkan conflict began in the 1990s.

One member of the group behind the plans wrote on the Bosnian website Bljesak: "Raising a Bruce Lee monument will be a reminder that before the war we had a peaceful childhood, when we used to have working class heroes like Bruce Lee.

"We want to prove that everyday life is not all about politics."

The website added the Chinese Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina had already been contacted about the plans and pledged to help in whatever way it could.

The raising of the statue would mark the 30th anniversary of the star's death.

Lee, star of classics such as Enter the Dragon and Fists of Fury, was 32 when he died in Hong Kong.
