Brain Teaser #1
If you 10 sacks of gold, and each sack had 10 bars of gold each weighing 1lb per bar, and you had 1 sack full of fools gold that weighed 1lb 1oz for each fool's gold bar.
If you could only use a standard scale 1 time, without taking off stuff etc. How would you find out which bag was the fools gold? |
by opening it.

can we ADD stuff on the scale?

Lay out the sacks, in any order you want, as long as you can remember which is first, second, and so forth. From the first sack take one bar, and place it on the scale. From the second 2 bars. Continue this until you have 10 stacks, one of one bar, one of two bars, ... one of ten bars, each from the appropriate sack. Weigh the coins. If they were all gold, the total would be 550 lbs. If the first stack weighed 11 grams instead of ten grams, 551; second stack 552, etc., thus pinpointing the underweight sack.

Yep looks like he got it so for example if the weight ended in
5 ounces = 5th sack with 5 bars 6 ounces = 6th sack with 6 bars whatever it is over in ounces gives it away. |
