My 1st Hangover from a Steak?!?
OK.. It's true.
Yesterday I went to a local Italian Market and bought a nice 1" thick Delmonico that was marinated in whiskey (with some peppercorns thrown in for good measure). I bought my wife a regular filet mignon. I get home & grill it up(medium well if you must ask, with a side of grilled onions, squash and zuchini(sp?)). While grilling, I drank 2 Caronas. I feel fine, no buzz. I finish up.. sit down and eat.. the steak tasted great! I couldn't believe I have never tried this before. After eating.. I feel buzzed. I wake up this morning at 4am and puke my brains out! it took about 30 minutes to finish off, and another 30 minutes to get back to sleep. I have a splittting headache this morning... I've never had a hangover before. I'm a big guy, I could never drink enough to get really drunk! Is this a hangover? Could this be the 1st documented case of a hangover from a steak? Please, do tell! :-) |
or food poisoning.

You may be a big guy......I think it's more a case of you being a light wieght ;)

yeah, what he said! :thumbsup |
your sick from bad meat.
cooking your steak to med/well will burn off all that alcohol so unless you cant handle a couple CORONAS, must have been the meat. sounds nasty if you ask me anyhow, whiskey & peppercorns??? |
lol BigS.. I think I am a lightweight!
I too thought food poisening.. but why am I feeling OK today? I have had food poisening before.. and it certainly felt worse than this!! Trust me Ganjasaurus - it tasted great! I don't know if i would mix it myself, however the Italian butcher shop did a good job of it! |
A light case of food poisoning. Since there are many types of bacteria that can cause it, there are many types of symptoms it can cause, ranging from light fatigue to death.

Same thing happend to me today Sharky except it was from a slightly undercooked monster mesquite BBQ'd turkey wing.
|
Sharky all that red meat is bad for you;-)
|
Thats why my steaks are all medium well :)

It isn't just the alcohol in a drink that gives you a hangover, it is also related to certain chemicals that are fermentation by-products. That's why real drinkers know that some booze (whiskey for example) is a lot more likely to hang you over than others (like vodka).
It could be food poisoning, but not from a medium well steak. Cooked that much - it would have had to be green and smelly before cooking to be toxic afterward. But that doesn't rule out poisoning from some other food, or faulty food handling during cooking. Actually, I think a little food poisoning now and then is good for the immune system. Let it add another bug to its reportoire. :) |

I do love zuchini and squash though. On the grill, they can't be beat! |
Food poisoning. I checked with my chef aka old man who hss cooked for 37 yrs or more. I'm the head bottle washer. lol He said even without cooking, the alcohol would have evaporated fom the meat in a fairly short time considering you bought it and took it home. It *could* have been a mix of the things involved that just didn't mix right too.
Whiskey has alot of pollutants that dont set well with some spices and if the meat was even a little turned, it could have really got to your stomach. :winkwink: |

Something about liquor...pour it in a clear glass of about 4-6 ozs and hold it up to a bright florescent light... the more 'swirels' (sic?) you see in it, indicates how much it has impurities. Filtering is all important and if its not done enough, it can and will make you either sick when mixed or when mixed with certain other things give you a hangover effect. lol
|
yeah its probably food poisoning..
but e-coli is a lot more common than people think. so if it keeps up for more than a few days go to the hopsital. |
Lucky for you that you're a big guy. If you weren't you would have probably ended up in the hospital. Take it easy for now on.
|
Yeah -
My wife and i got ecoli from a steak at OutBack steakhouse a few years ago. Didn't effect me as much as my wife. I wasn't feeling well for a day or 2.. My wife ended up in the hospital.. and it lasted just over a week. I can put up with a little ecoli if the steak tastes good! This was great, if it was ecoli... no big deal. This won't stop me from buying it again! :-) |
