In response to the threads bashing newbs

Sure they may be dumb, misguided, don't know what they are doing and don't know how to make money at this. But hey, some of you taught them to be misguided.

ALmost every webmaster program I have ever seen makes everything sound as easy as putting up a banner and letting the bank account overflow. A good number of programs only show the best conversions. They don't tell ya that in reality it averages at 1:1000. Or how about recruitment employees posting around with nice sigs claiming this and that all all the other jazz yet refuse to work with newbies on how to get their traffic doing good. I have talked to ALOT of recruiters and program CEO's. I'll say this much... most don't give ya the time of day unless they already see mega converting traffic comming.

As well, there have been many that were willing and enthusiastic and insightfull to work with. Ianx, ftvgirls, swoit, Tam, alex & jason, donovan, ezarizona, redshoe, sly_rj are all very appreciative and helpfull people. If everyone was as honnest, upfront and helpfull as these people we would not have newbs running around everywhere crying and bitching every 10 minutes wondeirng why they can't make money.

I see big names flamming newbs on this board alot. Why don't you flammers HELP these people get it right so you can all make more money? Do you not want their traffic and paying surfers? Or why not make your programs invite only or at the very least make the application process filter out newbs if you hate them so much?

Just a little thing for you to think about the next time you rip into a newb :2 cents:

After all,,,,, we were all newbs once.

Yes, let's help the competition in a limited market. After all, we don't do this for the money but for the grateful smiles of noobs when we help them set up TGP # 1,000,000,000, right?

Well if it's such a big deal, then why must programs accept every newb that signs up? :2 cents:

Fuck newbs, this life is about meritocracy.

Sink or swim bitch!

Not all of them do... I'm been trying to promote ATK for over a year... :(

Matthew 07-22-2003 07:08 AM

Yeah, we are running out of TGPs. We are starving for free content. We need webmasters that don't pay for hosting, don't pay for scripting - they use it free, for some traffic. Oh yeah baby, keep em coming. :Graucho

EscortBiz 07-22-2003 07:10 AM

if you ever tried helping a new comer to this biz you would know what im talking about.

We where all newbies at one point and learned from trial and error or from advice we got.

But lately so many newbies talk this bullshit how they will make a nicer site then thehun or they will build a paysite that only charges $15 a month so they will take over that.

Now thats ok to think like that, but when you try to talk ot them and explain what did and didnt work for you and many others they all say well I have this very new way to market or some BS like that.

Otherwise, the competition would get 'm, and while a single newbie might make only a few hundred sales a year, thousands of newbies can make quite a difference.

However, that does not mean you should help them become real competition.

muchmoreporn 07-22-2003 07:22 AM

newbies do become successful people if you lead them the right way, and making friends like thou is networking your contacts and trust. one day when you need help with something whos going to help you, definatly not the snobs that think they are too smart and scared of some compatition, and yes its annoying, but some newbies are worth helping epecially if your running an affiliate program, dont need to tell them all your secrets, and Im sure there are thousands of other webmasters out there willing to help, and a newbie isnt going give up very easy, why not let yourself be the one to help out and get the credit for it?

I dont think Id get anywhere being an asshole, even if it was just newbies, i remembered all the webmasters that didnt give me the time of day, and now i wont give them the time of day.

What bothers me is the amount of ppl that talk here like they know so much, but dont know shit. a newbie is probably best off learning on his/her own.

I will always consider myself a newbie, causes in this biz there is always new stuff to learn, and there will always be someone smarter than me.

i dont bash newbies coz im one myself, however, i do give them a hard time. i believe its the gfy board. No one here will hand u the key right away and tell u how they make a living.

ok, now multiply that handful by 1000 and then see how it works out for you:winkwink:
its not up to program operators to train ANYONE its up to newbs to learn the business.
Also, the traffic will come to the market whether said newbie makes it or not.

Freddy quimby: Hey! What the hell is this?
Waiter: [French accent] It's a bowl of chowder, sir. ["shaudere"]
Freddy: Wait a minute, come here. What did you call it? Say it loud enough so everyone can hear. Cone on, say it...
Waiter: Ahem. Chowder. ["shaudere"]
Freddy: [raucous laughter] Shau-dere? Shau-dere? it's "chowda"
["chowdah"] Say it right!
Waiter: [pause] Chowda. ["shauda"]
Freddy: [laugher] Come back here! I'm not through demeaning you.

Exactly, like the founder of IBM said something in the line of "even when we where starting out we acted as if we where in the business for years"

DaLord 07-22-2003 09:41 AM

I like newbies. They still act like fairly normal people unlike the big headed idiots who don't make half of what I make.

Sly_RJ 07-22-2003 09:41 AM

There are 2 kinds of newbies:
1) the newbie that thinks making money will be easy. They expect everything for free. They want free under-exposed content, with free hosting, with free marketing tips, and top conversions to boot.
2) the newbie that is willing to bust their ass to learn everything they possibly can. They don't expect hand-outs, but a little tip every now and then is appreciated. They know the money won't be easy, they don't expect to become a millionaire, but are ready to work as if they would become a millionaire.

Newbie #1 is a pain in the ass. They will drive you crazy, I promise you that. They will most likely never get past their 4th pay period. They want the quick buck. Once they realize there is no quick buck, they're gone. Oh, and did I mention that these guys have absolutely no loyalty? The second you stop giving them free stuff to work with is the second they move on to a different program.

Newbie #2 is a gem to find, but good luck finding one. These guys will make you money, it may take a while, but they will. To top that off, they're loyal and realize that this is in fact a business.

very true

Libertine 07-22-2003 10:09 AM

There are no valuable newbies. A newbie, by definition, knows very little about the business. A valuable newcomer, by definition, will start out with studying the business before doing anything. Because of that, that person may start out as a newcomer, but not as a newbie.

A newbie, to me, is someone who hasn't taken the time to read up on the business and make an effort to learn. A newcomer, on the other hand, may have lots of questions, but will be familiar with the basics.

Choker 07-22-2003 10:26 AM

Newbies bring new perspectives and fresh ideas into this business. Most webmasters have forgotten how to think like a surfer. Newbies still do. Every newbie I have helped at one time or another watches my back for me when I need it. Sooner or later everyone needs a favor. I like newbies :thumbsup

iwantchixx 07-22-2003 10:29 AM

Sly, you hit the nail right on the head bud.

jimmyf 07-22-2003 10:34 AM

The owners son where I get my paper every morning, ask me if I would talk to his friend, he was thinking about getting into the porn Biz. I'm pretty sure it would be with the sons money, so I gave him my phone number. :1orglaugh Told him about hosting (Diff. kinds), FTP programs, editors, content, getting traffic and bunch of other stuff. A few days later, the son and his friend were at the store. I ask the friend what he thought about it, said there's a lot to it. I also gave him some address's of boards to visit. I really don't think he will visit any.

I pay out more to newbies than what newbies pay me, far more. I make it possible for a newbie to throw a site together and get paid cash right away. So yeah I am pandering to newbies. They are the ones that got me where I am.

I look at it like this: Most of you older guys who have been around forever are like the Michael Jordans and George Formans of the game. You have made tons of money and can retire happily.
The newbies however - are your Kobe Bryants (spare me the jokes please :321GFY ) and De la Hoyas. They move faster, learn faster, jump much higher, punch harder, and innovate the game.
These youngsters can run circles around the older fucks!

The point:
Dont underestimate the newbies. Young brilliant minds still exist.

That's where you're very wrong. They can't retire. Sure they can write funny threads but they're too busy being big headed idiots without a clue. Trust me, I know how much many of them makes. It's pathetic to see how they act when knowing they hardly can't pay their rent.

iwantchixx 07-22-2003 01:49 PM

A lot of really great points have been brought up in this thread. Awesome. I do agree that 'newbs' who want everything handed to them are a pain in the fucking ass... so they can go kiss my fucking ass.

What I'm talking about is the disrespect and usderestimation some of the newer guys have. Some times people just need a little push in teh right direction every once in a while. These are the people I have no problem helping... because they always remember who helped them and will help me when I need them.

Ok.. Look at me. I was gettign knowhere, did no reasearch, knew nothing, I honnestly believed I could just throw a banner up and get rich,, thats how it was all explained to me. I had to work DAMN fucking hard and leave my dayjob to get a grip on this industry. I made an honnest plea for a little nudge in the right direction. Sly_rj came to my rescue and gave me a shove, just a litle shove is all I needed. Why he did that? I don't know. But I am forever thankfull to him. Now the guy comes to me for help with various little things, and he gets all the help I can give the guy. Hell, we are working on a site together that is going to kick major fucking ass!

All I'm saying guys is, give the newbs a chancce and figure out what they are before jumping right on them, you never know when you may need them. Of course, if it's just whining dickheads who can't even comprehend what html and traffic is... piss on 'em :) But I've seen many smart guys get flamed to hell on this board... I talked to them, they are very inteligent, just need a bit of a shove and in return they have benefited me with referal sales and traffic and other things. If you don't want to help them then just leave them be. I don't want more competition either so I only help the ones who can help me in the future.

Newbies...we were all newbies at one time, dont deny your past ;)

But the way I see it...if a 'newbie' isnt dedicated enough to roll with the punches, and the eventual shit they're gonne get (and its going to happen, no matter what) then face it - they probably dont have what it takes to make it, regardless.

Really????

After spending several years hanging out on newbie boards trying to help and working with a lot of newbies on a one-on-one basis I've come to the conclusion that 99% of newbies are a total waste of space, time and effort.

Right now if a newbie came up to me and asked for help I would probably just save time and punch his lights out - that's how disenchanted I am with newbies.
