SCO Registers UNIX(R) Copyrights and Offers UNIX License U.S. Copyright Office Officially Begins Assignment of UNIX Copyrights to SCO, Company to Provide UNIX License to Commercial Linux End Users LINDON, Utah, July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The SCOŽ Group (SCO)(Nasdaq: SCOX - News) today announced that it has received U.S. copyright registrations for UNIX System V source code, a jurisdictional pre-requisite to enforcement of its UNIX copyrights. The company also announced it will offer UnixWareŽ licenses tailored to support run-time, binary use of Linux for all commercial users of Linux based on kernel version 2.4.x and later. <b>SCO will hold harmless commercial Linux customers that purchase a UnixWare license against any past copyright violations, and for any future use of Linux in a run-only, binary format.</b> In May, SCO announced that Linux contained SCO's UNIX System V source code and that Linux was an unauthorized derivative of UNIX. SCO also indicated that Linux end users could face liability for running it in their organization. Beginning this week, the company will begin contacting companies regarding their use of Linux and to offer a UnixWare license. SCO intends to use every means possible to protect the company's UNIX source code and to enforce its copyrights. |

Guess we should all start planning on going back to our old bricks and mortar businesses or our old BBS's. The Internet is going to become one giant patented system at this rate. |

 I patented the internet

 Its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

SCO beautifully engineered this whole thing by releasing their source code, but with very confusing terms as to what it could be used for.
Luckily for them it did end up in Linux, now they will make bank if the LUG can't get the SCO source code the fuck out of there. Unfortunately for Linux, its going to be hard to replace patented System V technologies, because if they had to write it from scratch it might end up looking a lot like SCO's. You can't re-invent the wheel. Whoever invented copy-and-paste has made a lot of IP lawyers mega-bucks! |

 So fucked up...
May be a good short term stock buy tho :thumbsup |

This is months old and they're going after IBM first. Most people feel it's a ploy to get someone to ante-up and purchase the company.
	 |

They are silly enough to go after IBM??
	Damn that takes balls!!! |

Looks like another company that we should all buy stock in until we get 51%
	 |

Does anyone want to know where I'd like to shove these online patents?
	 |

When the fuck are they going to release World v2.0?
Cause this version is GAY. |

Now I get to have fun. Nah, don't worry, its for mainstream Internet apps. I wouldn't fuck you guys up. :Graucho |

I've applied for the copyright to copy and paste.
	 |

what is their stock symbol? :Graucho

I wonder what a court might rule on this issue. They might have the copyright (by the way it was bought by company aquisition. No one at SCO has invented shit) but Linux is based on thousands of people just using public knowledge. I feel it hard to believe that a judge would ignore that fact.

Should be running FreeBSD anyway. :thumbsup

I wonder if they already set up the [email protected] mail account. I can't even imagine the amount of heat they will take when enforcing this. But maybe they can't even read their email due to the constant hacker attacks that will for sure happen

Linux isn't the one-and-only free unix-like operating system out there. If SCO's jumping up and down beating their mighty chest is a serious concern to you, you should take a look at <a href="http://www.freebsd.org">FreeBSD</a> or one of the other alternatives.

I patented marketing on the web.
Just settle with me for only 2% of all revenues used through internet marketing. Wouldn't that suck? I'm going to file for patents for a living. |
