Anyone use Scottrade for their stock trading?
 

Anyone use Scottrade? I'm evaluating their services and wanted to see if anyone here has traded stocks through them. So far I like their customer service and their system has a nice fast layout.

i have done no trading yet as i just turned 18 in april but i am looking in to it and scottrade looked pretty good and they have good price

I like Ameritrade

I was using Datek which was just acquired by Ameritrade. Scottrade's trading fees are 30% lower. And they have an office you can go to locally.

I don't trade, because I don't know how.

I sure would like to though :)

Scottrade doesn't seem as up to date as other competing brokers. I don't think they offer check writing on their accounts, nor do they offer quick, easy and free transfers of cash from/to bank accounts.

The price for their trades is a little misleading too, $7 is for market orders only. If you want to do limit orders, it's extra $5, ->$12. (You can in theory get screwed with market orders, if a price spikes up a little when you place an order, you can end up being the sucker that bought at that spiked price.)

I think for example ameritrade offers better online trading system in general. It really depends on what your needs are though.

Just start small with a diversified portfolio. Some conservative stocks, some riskier ones. You can make a lot of money trading equities if you do your research, have good timing, luck, and solid brass balls if you get into day trading. Day trading is exhilerating because its like being at the craps table. Fast and furious trading where you can be in and out of a stock position in a few minutes.

What kills most traders is greed. You can do consistently well if you set your target positions realistically based on what's happening with the stock and get out when you planned to. Most guys will go fuck just one more 1/8th and I'm out and it doesn't come.

The best thing to do is go into the day trading forums on the Net. Lots of traders will help or you can just watch their moves.

Good Luck. Its very risky, but very profitable if you have a knack for it. Its also about 100 times more addicting as GFY so you've been warned.

I like Scottrade, I've had an account there for almost two years. Whoever posted about the trading prices is correct though, it's only $7 for market orders, $12 for limit orders.

Otherwise, I love their online live feeds...it's the best I've used. They're a discount brokerage in terms of not giving any advice, and only being able to talk to a live person when necessary.

Back when their wireless access worked (haven't checked recently...it was out for a while) it was pretty nice. Overall though, I've had very good experiences with them.

LOL, my problem is that I can see that I'll get addicted to the rush right off. Like when ICQ is popping and money is coming in. :)

I guess I never realized there were boards dealing with such a topic, but it stands to reason.
