Having a problem uploading .htaccess file (Getting 500 error when I run setup.cgi) anyone ever have this problem?

Most common errors are paths wrong or permissions to one of the files is wrong.

Check the paths, a simple type in the path will give you that error.

Can anyone say if Autorank Pro is better or worse than Autorank PHP? Which is faster? Which works better?

how about to perl?
can you run it on the command line of the server? If so, then it will spit out an error and tell you what is wrong.

well the php version is a little faster because there is not so much server resources being used as with the cgi version.

If you are just using running one script then either one will work will work fine. If you are going to run several of them on the same server then go the php version :)

ok, I got that step to work, although my next step (where I login w/ the admin/admin signin) denies my name and password!??!

I get a 401 error. Any ideas?
