target="_new" - No Good?

Ok lets say i have a page that gets SE hits for "tight teens"

the user gets there and see's an FPA that leads to tightteens.com or some shit.

Will i get the same conversions if i open link in new window?

right now i have it so if he DOESNT click any links, he gets an exit.

Im wondering if id be better off opening the sponsor in a new window, and throwing an exit on him as soon as he closes my window, weather he signs up or not.

Any feedback?

I'd send it straight to the sponsor

you mean no new window?

neewwman 07-20-2003 09:47 PM

I don't have a scientific answer for this, but most pay-per-click sponsors have a rule against opening in a new window. They must have concluded this doesn't convert as well.

On the other hand, with the new window plus the exit console you get a second bite at the apple.

Which leads to what really works: trial and error.

I usually set my sponsors to open in a new window, and i usually get good conversions from the exit console on my main page.

You always want to milk traffic for all it's worth and this involves strategic console use. I personaly prefer blur consoles over exit consoles. On my SE traffic I drop a blur console on entrance to the page. Then regardless if I open the sponsor in a new window or not I still have the blur console sitting there waiting.

i would 2.. alot of people have popup blockers.. and if you had it open in a new window they wouldn't even be able to see the page.. the popup blocker blocks ALL new windows from opening.. which is kind of dumb

Meloman is right, to get most of your traffic, you should use an entrance blur console (for eraser type programs and whatever else you feel like using, mailers, dialers, non-adult if allowed, etc.). I do that and also an exit console to mailer programs and dialers. For the rest, I mostly use target=_blank to open a new window, especially for the programs that have a back button manipulation. I also think it is the right thing to do for the sites opening an entrance console and an exit console (or chained consoles), since after leaving them the surfer still sees your initial page and if he leaves it he gets the exit console and still has the blur console sitting there. Also, when you use an exit popup and target=_blank you don't need to put the code to avoid popping the exit console when the surfer clicks on the direct link to a sponsor (not opening in a new window).
But you have to try and see how it converts for you. If surfers use popup blockers also for new windows, they won't be able to see your new windows. In the end you'll figure out what makes you more money.
However, when used only 1 sponsor on a page, use the direct link, no new window. For more on a page, you could also use the direct link for the last one on the page.
About the ppc programs not allowing new windows, it's also a question of taking all your traffic when paying for it, and not leaving it to you, or having it eventually blocked by console blocker softwares.

Don't any of you use the meta refresh?

So you open up your sponsors with target="_blank" and all of your sites have a meta refresh of 60 seconds. So when the surfer looks at the sponsors page your original page will have loaded another ad page, sposnor, exit page whatever. No pop uip blocker will prevent this.
