Buying cars from Japan
Anyone have any experience buying a vehicle from Japan and registering it in Canada or the States?
|
you cant import a car from japan into the states that is not available for purchase here..
ie: nissan skyline, unless you put a big bond up.. also it must conform to u.s vehicle regulations |

and what do you mean by bond.. bond...james bond? |
why not just go to a dealer, they have imported cars for sale already
|
they have places that can import cars and alter them so they pass our safety and emissions... oh yea and left hand drive also.

RHD. Love it. Just like the UK, babe. :D
|
you do realize they drive on the other side of the road !
if you import you need to add the cost of converting them to left/right hand drive! :glugglug |

The reason I am interested in JDM vehicle is the car I was going to buy was sold. I've also seen a few other japanese vehicles around including a skyline. It would be interesting to see what it takes to register one here. |
Why don't you just have a local dealer order you a car?
|
if you were going to go the supra / mr2 route, why not just buy the cheapest one you can find here and import a JDM-spec engine / etc...? if you're in vancouver, there's plenty of shops that should be able to do that for you, and it sure beats the hell out of paying to convert a car to LHD
