They both pretty much suck when it comes to acting...but at least a pornstar might take it up the poop chute or take a facial.

soap stars do all that behind the scenes. how do you think they get their roles?

Many if not most soap stars are "serious" actors trying to pay the bills until the big thing comes along. Many soap actors in New York are pulling small roles on Broadway while also working the "9-5" of the soap world.

worked for 4 producers for 5 years, 2 of them produced commercials, the other 2 films, in fact one just exec produced T3.

anyway, one of my duties was to edit casting tapes for clients to go through...came across plenty of soap actors, former sitcom "stars," etc.

Our receptionist was an Academy Award Nominee...Quinn Cummings.

They are all hacks...if you think porn is demeaning, run some casting for a toothpaste commercial...you'll see people sink levels that would just amaze you, just so they can smile into the lense and claim 4 out of 5 dentists choose that product ;)

I know Sarah Michelle Gellar used to be on a Soap (I forgot which one though, either One Live To Live or General Hospital, it was the one with Susan Lucci in it"

And Ricky Martin used to be in General Hospital. Yasmine Bleeth used to be on Ryan's Hope. Lot's of famous people used to be on soaps but I can't remember all of them now.

I can't tell you how many soap stars I have seen show up in Shakespeare at the summer. Never yet seen a porn star there though.

soap opera actors are very talented people, it's having to churn out an hour of crappy melodrama A DAY that makes them so cheesey. They're shooting the equivalent, in terms of length and dialogue, of a prime time hour long show. Prime time series shoot 20 something episodes a year, soap opera 250!

i remember Meg Ryan on As the World Turns, prolly rubbed one or two out to her. Her name was Betsy.

Hmmmmm........who else started in soaps. Kathleen Turner for sure. David Hasselhoff did his best work before Baywatch as young doctor Snapper Foster on The Young and the Restless.

Which African-American stars showcased their enormous talent, however so briefly, in daytime dramas? Here are some highlights from SoapCity.com's Top 20:

a.. Super suave Billy Dee Williams played Dr. Jim Frazier on The Guiding Light in 1966. His replacement in 1967? None other than James Earl Jones;

b.. Another famous Frazier from The Guiding Light? Renowned actress Cicely Tyson who played Martha Frazier, on the show in 1966;

c.. Teenage Laurence Fishburne had a three-year stint (1973-76) as Joshua Hall on One Life to Live. Ten years later, Phylicia Rashad would spend a year on this soap in the character of Courtney Wright. In 1985, soon to be LA Law star Blair Underwood would join the soap for a year as Bobby Blue.

d.. Another soap teen queen who made more than good? Fugees and solo artist Lauryn Hill. She played Kira Johnson on As the World Turns, five years before her 1996 Grammy victories.

e.. The beloved but now departed soap, Another World, gave film and primetime to three big stars. First was Morgan Freeman, who played Roy Bingham for a two-year stint beginning in 1982. Film and TV veteran Joe Morton portrayed two characters, Abel Marsh and Leo Mars, during his 1983 stint. The actress/comedian Jackee (Jackee Harry) played the role of Lily Mason from 1983 - 1986.

That's wild, the girl from the Fugees was a soap star. NEVER would have guessed that.

Marisa Tomei and Juiliane Moore were also on same soap as Meg Ryan.

Well, she was in one of the Sister Act movies too.
