Okay, I'll go first:

Got into it as a protest to the mainstream comics/animation companies.

I musta been right cause mainstream 2D animation and comic books are dropping like a rock.

Some webmasters I've met over the years tell very interesting stories about how they got into it as a fluke yet made out alright. Some just for the money, others...just for the money.

Great way to express my creativity. (Not in the "artiste" graphics art kind of way but in the traffic hunting and pooling kind of way)

I don't think I'm "in" it yet.

All my friends and cousins have some kind of internet porn business.

I had a bunch of porn links I had bookmarked in my favorites. I decided to make a link list of sorts (hand picked by me without submissions) so that other people that were looking for that kind of site would be able to find the good ones easily.

Then I added a few casino banners that paid on a PPC basis. Made a few dollars (though I never got paid) and decided to make a real site rather than a link list site.

I protected the content with Adult Check. Started making some real money and getting paid. I was then motived to make more money.


The rest is as they say history.

kind of an even mix of walking out on AT&T/@Home/Excite when they started going down, not finding anything in the want ads that looked remotely interesting, having a few connections in the biz, and enough confidence to refine something I enjoyed doing into something that kicked ass and was in demand.

I was supposed to go to a job interview for a high end home theatre installation company called Matrix on the morning I made the decision. Was scheduled to meet the guy at 9am....

I cracked a beer and went down to the jacuzzi instead.

Prepared my girlfriend with a speech about, "This is not gonna be an easy road and I can get a fresh newspaper in the morning if you think it's the better choice"....

That's when the starving commenced. :)

My mom kept bugging me to get a job while I was in full time school, this was easier cause I could just build a site then make money off of it.

actually, it is a long story. But i will keep it short.

i started a bondage company making Handcrafted leather gear (i am a master leather crafter) to make more money than i was at the Ren Faires and such making armour.

i started taking pics for my catalogs, and i found i had about 5000 pics left over after putting the 200 in the catalog. Since i was getting into the fetish scene for this, i figured, why not make some fetish sites.

took me about 2 years to finally get alot of the shit ironed out to get a site up, but www.den-o-sin.com and www.firsttimebound.com were born from those images.

I am a major fan of leathercrafts not for bondage but fine tanning and creative decorative pieces with doe-hide. Brilliant! I'll tell you, best clothes I ever had were made out of buckskin. I saw a buckskin motorcycle jacket that ROCKED. Cost 1,500 smackers though but WAY worth it.

Metal smithing is a joy to watch. I'm a swordsman myself, trained in everything from foil to katana to broadsword ( oh, lemme tell you, some broadswords weigh as much as 90lbs! ).

See??? That's the kinda story I'm talking about! I started with AC too. Back in the day before it became more confusing than a California woman's makeup in a tornado.

I remember just putting up that AC script and just bullshitting around and I had NO porn. Just superhero-chicks that I didn't want kids to see. It was just sketches! Some color. I left it alone and I started getting paid! Shook the shit outta me!

What's best about this business is actually to me, meeting talented people who couldn't get a shot at displaying their talent working for 'the man' til they took the bull by the horns and started some sites. I know guys and gals now rolling in dough and financing their bands, film careers, etc. and doing GOOD!

I read a tiny article in Time Magazine 20 years ago that a company had a phone number you could call to listen to people having sex. The next day at the investment firm I was working at during lunch I saw about 20 guys all huddled in an office. I knocked and went in and said what are you guys all up to. The speaker phone was on and the response was sssshhh, listen to this girl getting off, she's gonna cum any second now. I started writing out a list of all the fantasies that would work as phone numbers i.e. 976-TITS, 976-LEGS, 976-FEET, 976-BUTT, 976-ORAL, etc.

Then I started to pencil out the revenue potential thinking if I can have a dozen of these numbers going and just get each guy to try them all at least one time . . . .

I was running other non-porn related sites, and I decided to add a few 'adult' banners into my banner rotation. Well for some reason they got more clicks than any other banners. It was then I knew I was making the wrong types of websites.

i didnt even know back in 1995 that i could make money, i'd steal other site's sponsor banners and put it on my site so i could look like i 'landed a sponsor'... i thought 'landing a sponsor' was like things great athletes and shit got .... lol i was 19 and very naive =) (or stupid, what have you =) )

come to think of it, its more on the exposure to diffent sorts of bizz. :)

Cause INS didn't wanna give me a H1-B visa.
So I had to find other ways of making money :)
