Just saw Bowling for Columbine

For those of you who don't know about this documentary, here's the blurb:

Michael Moore, who wrote, produced and directed this documentary, examines the shootings that happened at Columbine High school. The documentary's focus broadens to include another shooting of a six year-old by a classmate. He then tries to examine the causes of these shootings and the reasons for the violence in America in general.

Personally, I thought the documentary was very interesting. Although I felt there was a bit of bias on the part of Moore, I'd have to agree with a lot of his observations.

The observation which hit closest to home was the fear-mongoring by the US media. For those of you who have seen this documentary, what do you think about Moore's observations and his message? Why do you think certain parts of the U.S. have so many violent killings?

u must really like it with 3 other posts

hottoddy 07-14-2003 09:58 PM

Yeah, but it's not a documentary. While it has parts that could qualify, overall it's just entertainment in the guise of a documentary.

Yeah, I kept getting a "Page cannot be displayed" error when trying to submit. Sorry about that guys, I know how annoying it can be.

So what exactly is a documentary?

Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film.

FYI - Google has a nifty dictionary feature

This is what makes it not a documentary & more than just a little biased:

Haven't seen the movie yet. But if it's anything like what this essay says it is, I'll have to laugh.

Anyone with a brain knows Moore is completely full of shit. It doesn't matter which side of the gun issue you're on, that movie is as fictional as Star Wars.

I'm impressed. I felt the "documentary" was a little biased, but this is ridiculous, thanks for the link Thorin.

You'd think people would be hip to this Hollywood game.

It's only make believe boys and girls.

Hollywood is the fakest place on Earth.

All they do here is make movies.

I suppose Gangs Of New York happened that way too!

hahaha

;)

The first time I even heard of Bowling for Columbine was after it won an award for best documentary. I assumed it was indeed a documentary and therefore true. You can't compare a movie such as Gangs of New York, which is only based on historical events, with a supposed documentary such as this one.

Fletch XXX 07-15-2003 08:25 AM

I wasn't comparing the two, I was being sarcastic.

That movie is worth watching just to see a bank give a guy a gun for opening an account. Fucking amazing...

Sly_RJ 07-15-2003 09:25 AM

Maybe I'll rent it this weekend. That essay is just too damn funny, need to see if it's true.

It's not really that amazing... theres places where your parents give you hunting rifles at 10 years old. If you really want a shock go to a small town in alaska... no one speaks english, everyone has guns... they get drunk off anything with alcohol in it (ny quil, ect) they huff gas, theres no real police, and they all live and die within 5 miles of their birth place.

As for Bowling for Columbine... its fun to watch to see what an ass michael moore is, and all the people who you watch it with going "wow hes so right" all the time. makes you want to smack them.

Theres something funnier than Moore, and it's stereotypes.

flashfreak 07-15-2003 09:47 AM

I saw the movie few months ago and it's clear that like it or not he shows the truth.
for all the jerks that still act like emus and point his words: it doesn't lower crime rates in usa, it doesn't bring back the dead kids, columbine was TRUE.
come here and tell me the last scene with the guy from NRA is fake... or the killer bees terror, year2k etc...

the real magoo 07-15-2003 09:49 AM

I donīt watch the news on tv anymore. I get all the information from the net now.

Columbine was false! It never happened. It was a staged conspiracy by the anti-gun crack pots. There are no dead kids to bring back because nobody died!

Another Hollywood production. Those guys are getting better and better every year.
