just got a $1 chargeback

hahah.. fucking surfers..

someone just charged back $1 (one dollar)..

there HAS to be a way to stop this.. why can't people just get the person on tape admitting that they made the charge, then telling the bank? People shouldn't be so passive about it..

I'm not a banking expert but can a chargeback be reversed? Why can't the bank just call you and ask you to refund the money first?

etc etc.. just pisses me off.

Sorry i didn't mean to upset you or try and raise you CB %.

Marcus 07-12-2003 10:46 PM

does it go by the dollar amount of the chargebacks, or just the total number of the chargebacks themselves?

What I love is how when a person charges back, they're basically saying that they didn't authorize that charge and they never agreed to that charge so someone else must have done it. (which we all know is BS)

BUT!

Why doesn't Visa say "oh shit! well if you didn't make this charge, then someone must be using your card illegally!" and then "we better cancel your card number and issue you a new card ASAP"

Do they cancel the persons card and re-issue a new one? Nope!

I've had this kind of situation happen to me. Someone actually did steal my CC number and bought a membership to xpics about 2 years ago on my visa. I called and charged it back and I also told them obviously someone has my CC number and I want a new one. They didn't really want to but after telling them I'll find a new visa card they jumped right on to send me a new one.

Maybe i'm not seeing the whole picture here, but whats the big deal with the charge back? Somebody goes to your site, gets a membership blah blah, charges back, you refund the money. Now why does visa lose out? because of what? the person that had to give the refund had to be paid? or what is it? I heard the problem with fraud was sometimes the banks cant actually get the money back from the merchants, but if the money is returned to the person wheres the set back?

just wandering.

Another thing if you think about it if the processor makes the information and the refund process easy for the customer, like having thier 800# on the charge when they get thier statement.. Then why is fraud a problem, it wont even hit visa if the people call the processor to get the refund.

I owed block buster video like 2 dollars, i got like 20 collection letters, why cant we do that?! heh

Think about the process costs. They have tons of banking guys processing chargeback requests, doing paperwork & talking to customers who insist they never authorized that charge. It all costs cash and it's in Visa's + all the banks' interest to minimize CBs since that maximizes their profits.

Bullshit. They charge the merchant $25 or so to handle all of this.

Most people don't call the processor, they call their bank's Visa/MC department and bitch to them.

must cost them a fortune! considering they pay their employee's 8$ an hour? each slave can probably process 100 charge backs per hour. i don't see how this can be expensive.. probably all computer generated.. enter their name .. what they are disputing print some bull shit out and bam.. it's done. to process a charge back for visa.. it probably costs them 2$ NOT EVEN.. that's like bitching because their users are using their visa card to much and slowing down their computers from processing so much data.. and they do not even re issue a credit card when some one says it is stolen.. some one should sue them for that and say they went over the 1% threashold because visa was not doing their job and re iussing credit cards becuase it would cost them 10 cents for a new card.
