Attention: Content Buyer Beware!!!

Now we know people like magicman aka rockstar aka Tom Davis are nothing new.. but with all the newer people in the industry looking for a way to break into the business, cheap content sounds like a godsend. However, BEWARE... If someone approaches you with a deal on content that seems too good to be true, it PROBABLY IS! It's VERY easy for crooks to repackage someone else's content and attempt to resell it, but in the end it won't just get HIM in trouble, it can get YOU in trouble. If you don't have proper license or proof that this person can supply you 2257 information, you could be asking for a one way ticket to jail! DO NOT BE SCAMMED!

Buy content from people who are reputable! Generally an individual will NOT sell off a huge stock of pictures for a stupidly cheap price! Producers have overhead to deal with, and selling their images that cheap simply shoots themselves in the foot, and they know it! If it seems suspicious or too good to be true, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR PROOF THAT THE PERSON IS THE PRODUCER OR HAS LEGAL RIGHTS TO SELL THE IMAGES! This is YOUR ass on the line, PROTECT IT! When a producer sells their images through a content provider, there are legal contracts involved that give that provider legal rights to resell those images on behalf of the producer... If the person who's attempting to sell you images is NOT the primary producer and does NOT have a resellers agreement, HE IS BREAKING THE LAW, and potentially, you CAN be penalized for it.

I can understand why deals like this would be appealing to people... Content is probably the biggest primary cost coming into any adult webmaster venture. But is getting a killer deal on content from a questionable source WORTH going to jail for? Think about it, because that IS what it can come down to. Aside from that fact, what happens when the REAL owner of the images comes along, and if he says you CANNOT legally use the images.. You've just lost any money you paid. You are MUCH better off to go with people who have a good reputation, even if it means you pay a little more. Those few extra dollar could mean potentially your freedom! If someone approaches you with an extraodrinary deal, BE CAREFUL... especially if they are pushy.. Even some of the biggest content blowouts lately have been done through LEGITIMATE content providers or brokers! You can't get much better deals than what have already been offered and have the content be legal! Save up those pennies, and spend them on content you can have FAITH in.

Alright I'm done, but I felt this message was very important to put out, especially considering the amount of people who have been scammed.. This can't help them, but maybe it will stop the next person from becoming a victim.

Its not my experience that this sort of thing happens to often to webmasters unless they buy off Ebay or similar auction houses.

I have however been approached several times by umm lets just say questionable individuals that wanted to sell us content.

Guy rips people off by asking for money, tryin to sell them content that isn't his (it belongs to FA productions) and is just a general all around crook. I was basically giving a warning to newbies though that was more general :)

So in other words use common sense when doing business and if you don't have common sense then you shouldn't be in business.

Rule # 1 regarding buying content.

Never buy content from someone that has to sit and whore it on a message board. Why? Chances are everyone else has it, its in all the local TGPs and the newbies are chopping it up for galleries.

I'll never recommend content heheh

I keeps those secrets to myseff massa.

The power of secrets in this industry is astounding.

Heh, of course there's a difference between HAS to and WANTS to, right Fletch?

harvey 07-12-2003 09:44 PM

well, not everybody who is new at the content thingy and offering incredible prices has to be a crook. At least, we're not. furthermore, not only we offer all kind of documentation, but also the model handling IDs and whatever proof the buyer needs. And still we sell exclusive content as low as twice the price of that content as non exclusive :thumbsup

Plus, I agree this thing you're mentioning happens, but I highly doubt it all comes from FA Productions. Instead of that, this actions goes in prejudice of several content producers.

Anyway, I'd remake your statement for: "Don't trust anyone who is new and cannot proof shit". All the times I was offered these magic deals and asked for proofs to newbies (and not so new), I never NEVER got one. That's why I only trust for sure in 3-4 persons in this board, Maybe I'd add 3-4 more, but with all the rest I'd be veeeery careful. Just read the threads this last month and there are a lot of scams going on :feels-hot Maybe it's time to build a trustable service providers database? :glugglug

Not really when looking from my angle.

It's the CONTENT I speak of, not the person.

My post was regarding the way content is flooded and whored out for pennies on the dollar, post after post, newbie tgp gallery maker after next ;) . I'm talking about CONTENT , not $13 dollar sets of some chick in KEDS. hehehe

Yet some of the NICEST, and QUALITY content, do not post here, or any boards really.

;)

I never said everyone, and did I not say someone who couldn't provide proof? Tom Davis is trying to sell FA Productions content illegally, doesn't mean FA isnt' straight up.. We do business with FA and they are awesome guys.

Some deals are legitimate, but hopefully you aren't going to be insulted if people do a little research first.. My intention in making this post was not to say "Don't BUY CONTENT DEALS!" I don't see ONCE where I stated that.. However, I DO want people to THINK and check into things before just dishing out the cash.. There ARE a lot of crooks out there, and it makes it harder for those of us who work legitimately. There are a TON of really reputable and high quality content providers around here that have good reputations to preceed them. New guys in the business have it harder, but hey, if you're honest and your product is good, word gets around. However, it's far too easy for newer webmasters to fall into the trap of "cheap content" and get so excited they don't realize they're getting ripped off. Wouldn't you prefer the webmasters who deal with you to be informed and KNOW they're getting great service and a great deal from you, and go tell 10 friends? That's how it's supposed to work. You have nothing to worry about if you're honest. You just have a lot of hard work to do, just like the rest of us do :)

However I should mention, if you can't prove you at LEAST have model releases and ID's, why would anyone trust you in the first place? Recordkeeping is NUMERO UNO important. I wouldn't worry if you have all this in place. Like I say a reputation is built over time.. you can't just expect one. People will be distrustful, roll with the punches. You will gain your rep and some good loyal customers and you will be set.

I beg to differ, but hey, Matrix, FocusAdult, PaulMarkham and many others must have shitty content, eh? :P

At least, theoretically, right?

Not.

Not.

Ive seen Paul Markham go from his 'artistic stance' from professional photographer to bargain basement dealer , from no cheap sets to whoring it out like the rest, giving it away, literally. Although his stuff is very good though ;)

FocusAdult (Phoenix) ive purchased from them for years, i DO NOT see them posting in every thread whoring out 5 dollar sets of the same old content like all the brokers that swarm here. I see so many people post about THEIR SETS, I go to the site, same old ics.

There is a difference between content brokers, and people who shoot their own content. ;)

As far as Matrix again, I dont see them here posting in every thread about their new deals and how cheap it is.

That was the basis of my post.
